Just got back from Pa to Tn Trip and Wife got Burned!

Hey Spyder Ryders,
We my wife and I just got back from a week long trip from PA to TN and this was her first long trip on her 2009 RS SE. She is really enjoying it but complained that it runs way too hot......BOTH her boots lugs have melted and she has red skin from burn like on her right leg.
I have read all about the right foot issue and have ordered the Missing Air Dam....but I know that is not a solution for her....I am going to order her highway pegs.....I am bringing the Spyder into the Dealer on Friday to have it checked out as well.
ANY other ideas suggestions??

Clever idea. I will have to do this - considering the temps that I encounter out here in New Mexico.

I did do something similar - I used some of the tubular insulated pipe wrap and tucked it into the gap around the air-dam, just behind the radiator fan. This helps keep the hot air from the fan and radiator from hitting my right foot.

It just tucks into the gap around the air-dam and so far ( over 5,000 miles ) just stays there and is not noticeable at all.

Combined with Repop's mod, which looks like it increases the radiator's efficiency, it should greatly reduce the convection oven effect on the rider's foot.

Have you pulled the splash guards off the bottom of the frame? I don't get the hot foot on my Spyder.

i have the ISCI floorboards and highway pegs and i can tell you the pegs will give you relief from the heat works great. :2thumbs:

Here is what I did . . . .

. . . this is not perfect, but it is real fast and cheap.

To keep the hot air off my right foot, I took some 1.5 inch pipe insulation foam tubing and tucked it into the space around the air-dam ( just behind the radiator and fan ) in the right-side cowl.

Notice, that at the top of the air-dam, there is quite a gap, that I have not closed. So far, this has worked for me and unless the heat starts pouring through, I won't do any more.

It takes a couple of feet of the tubing ( easily cut with scissors ) and about 5 minutes. I used the 1.5 inch diameter tubing because I had some laying around, but it also comes in 2" - which might work better. I started tucking it in at the gap on the bottom, closest to the radiator and then worked it up to the large gap at the top (the last picture). Most of the tucking was done from the foot side - that seemed to work for me.

If you shine a light or have the sun shine through the cowl opening at the radiator, you can clearly see the gap - and any spots you might have missed when tucking in the tube.

I have over 6,000 miles on this tube. It stays in place and has not melted or burned or suffered any heat damage. Last summer, here in NM, with temps in the 100's and stop-and-go city driving and the fan running, my right foot was warmer than my left, but did not get hot. At the same temps on the expressway, same thing. Before this, while my boots did not melt, I have had to stop and take off my boot - if I had not, I think I would have burned my foot.

It is not perfect, but it is hardly noticeable and it is really fast and cheap. It works for me.

This combined with the radiator foam gasket that Repops is selling should be a great combination this summer.

Next Steps

So here is the latest....
I have two Dealerships researching and BRP has Created a Tech File for both to refer to for transparency.
They have ordered the new Generation Three Fan and have advised they will be removing the Splash panels (both under warranty)...They are also researching a part called an A-Arm Deflector....That wouldl not be covered under warranty...but they have not heard from BRP parts/accessories teh specs on that part/parts yet.
I bring it into dealer on friday so their tech guys can do some diagnostics.
I have also ordered the MAD Kit from Repop and it has been mailed.
Additionally, I have the highway peg kit arriving Friday - so hopefully in about 2 weeks I will have the new Fan and all installed and can report back the findings......
