• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

...on a 2012 RT Limited. I got into riding late (just turned 52 and only took a course and rode for the first time last September). I bought a 2005 Honda Shadow Aero at the time and am trying to decide if I want to keep that along with the Spyder or just go with the Spyder. Since I don't have all those years of experience, I'm hoping that there isn't a lot that I have to UNlearn about riding before I can feel comfortable on three wheels (and I'm not experienced enough to take my wife out on my Honda yet but I think I'll be fine with this which will make her happy). I LOVE the Honda (great bike for a beginner like me) but I'm guessing I'll like this even more (the weather hasn't been good here so I haven't taken a test ride - just bit the bullet and bought one). If anyone has both a bike and Spyder (I'm guessing there are a lot that do) and can give me some insight into whether it's worth it to keep both or stay with just the Spyder now, your sage advice would be very welcome!

I have to wait until late next week before I can pick it up (they had to get a 2012 from out of state) but since we just had another snow storm this week it's not too big of a deal to wait. I'm hoping our weather improves before next Friday gets here though!

I want to thank everyone for the great advice I've already picked up from reading this site (the do's and dont's are great!). I'm just hoping I can remember all of them when I'm finally able to pick it up.

Are there any sites in particular that anyone recommends for "extras"? I see a number of them in the forum for dealers but I'm not certain if there are ones that are better than others. The only two things I think I may want right off the bat are rider footboards (they told me they come standard on the Limited for 2013 but not 2012) and some kind of decal set (I'm getting the "lava bronze" with the black seat - some of the pictures I'm seeing here are amazing and I'm guessing they are decals, but please forgive me if not...I'm certainly not trying to offend anyone if they are incredible paint jobs instead).

Now I just need to find some fellow riders up in the northern CT/southern MA area!

I think that you will be extremely happy with the 2012 Lava Bronze, i have one also, the only problem is that it is a hard color for decals, they dont show up very well unless they are white. but if that is your biggest problem then you are in good shape.

I would suggest that you seriously look into Spyderpops Bump Skid, for around two hundred dollars you will save the front end of your RT, it is a relatively easy install and not only works great but looks good also.

I have the Seal Pup floorboards with the lamont NBV ((no bad vibes) highway pegs besides a lot of other mods, the softer hand grips from Tricled are a great comfort to your hands.

:welcome: and :congrats: on your pending purchase of a :spyder:. you still have time to get the Spyder, become comfortable with ryding it and then come on down to Spyderfest. It will be a great chance to see hundreds of Spyders and what others have done to them to make them their own. Also there will be a large group of aftermarket vendors with "farkles" to buy and have installed!:yes:

I guess you can see by my avatar that I've got the same machine as you've made a deposit on.
I love it. I've also got a Triumph Bonneville and a Harley V-Rod.

You may want keep the Shadow to be on two wheels riding solo.
I bought the Spyder because my wife loves to ride and I was uncomfortable two up on two wheels, short legs, weak knees.
You can't beat the Spyder for two-up riding.
I'll keep the Triumph, but the V-Rod is for sale.

The best mod I've installed so far is the BajaRon Sway Bay, it's caused the Spyder to become a totally different ride.
I hope you are as happy with the Spyder as I am.

When I logged back in this evening I was shocked at how many people had responded and I wanted to thank all of you.

I do have a question - I am NOT mechanically inclined (I can fix your computer but don't ask me to fix much of anything else!!). For those that recommended the floorboards and the anti-sway bar (they sound like they may be my best bets for a limited budget and quick "fix"), can you tell me how easy/difficult they actually are to install? Is it something that a novice with no mechanical ability (but plenty of tools!) can do? I'm tempted to order them now so I have them ready to go when I'm able to pick it up but am leery of doing it simply because of my lack of ability.

Any sage advice you can pass along would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm a software engineer, so like you not mechanically minded at all. I have a set of seal floorboards and they're very easy to install. Took about 20 minutes, just a couple of bolts and a bracket to screw in.

I want the sway bar but wouldn't dare take my frunk off. I'm looking to have the sway bar fitted at the owners event in Maggie Valley.

The Inspector Gadgets floorboards are a very simple install...remove two bolts from each driver's foot pegs, remove peg, install floorboard. Ron's anti-sway bar is also a relatively simple install. No need to remove the frunk on your RT. Ron's instructions are spot on...you can do it...just take your time and ensure you understand the instructions before doing each step. Good luck!

You don't take the frunk off. You need a screwdriver, 2 13mm combination wrenches, a 9/64" allen key, a 10mm socket or combination wrench and a 2" long 2x4 and some way to jack the bike up about 6". You take out the bolts and push pins as shown on the instructions and using the 2x4 you push the frunk out 2" then swap out the sway bar.
