• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have a question that maybe has been answered in another thread: What do Lamonster & Fred Rau think of the new 2014 RT? and are they getting one for themselves?

If it's too personal to ask, I understand them not answering.

I don't own a Spyder, but have been following the Spyder's progress for last few years and was thinking about getting after I saw the 2011 RT Limited.
But there always seems to be little problems that seem to crop up that makes me hesitant to get one.
However, it appears that the 2014 RT solved many (if not all) of their past problems concerning heat. etc.

So, I know Lamonster and Fred Rau have been a large influence in the Spyders community since the beginning and I was looking to see their comments on the new 2014 RT and have they gone ahead and gotten one for themselves. I was looking forward to see their YouTube videos on the new 2014 bikes, but In haven't found any.

Maybe they have commented in a earlier thread about their thoughts and plans to get one, but I missed it.

Is something else coming down the road that they are holding off getting one now if they aren't getting the 2014's?

Just curious.

Thanks

Fred Rau had a 2014 that he got around January 1st. He was to put 6,000 miles on it before he left last week for New Zealand. He was pretty busy riding it but from what I read he liked it. Lamont has an RTS on order but I do not believe that he has received it yet. I do not believe that either of them have to purchase the Spyder for themselves. They receive them as part of their Ambassador program (or whatever they call it now)

Here's what you do..!!

PM them and they may answer you directly...but yes they both have them and have been ryding them since before they were unveiled. I have talked to Fred and Lamonte has posted as to the new RT 1330. All reports are for the most part good. Time will tell though all models have been good. Every year has had a problem or two and this year will be no different..test ryde one and find out for yourself...

I thought about sending them a PM but I think that really everyone would like to know that they think, not just me.

When I saw the 2013's I thought wow, they're listening and doing things I like, the floorboards, the changing of the suspension, etc.

Then, I started reading about the all the heat issues and ball joint problems which didn't put the bike in a good light.

Now, with the new engine, 6 speeds, no adjustment needed valves and forward radiators, they seemed to have taken care of a lot of issues with the 2013's and older bikes.

I intend to test ride one soon. Demo rides in AZ will be here for bike week soon.

But I'll keep looking for those YouTube videos on the new Spyders.

Shawn Smoak's Youtubes are pretty good.

Just be careful to not let the perfect get in the way of the good. If you wait for the perfect machine to be made you may never get anything. I think that even with the issues, I have a 2013 RT-S, I am glad I bought a Spyder when I did. Sure, I would love to have a 2014 RT-s now but if I had waited I would not have had all the wonderful times on a bike that I have experienced. We don't live forever so if you keep waiting for improvements you could die and never have the fun of riding a Spyder. Just pull the trigger and enjoy. Never look back and you won't be disappointed.

Are they looking for a Canadian Ambassador?

Hoping..!!

Really hoping you are not using this site as your sole reason for getting into the roadster. You have to rely on your own feelings likes and dislikes. Test ryding is a great help. This site has 13,000+ members some don't have a spyder yet most of them are out enjoying the adventure and a few are having some problems. The success here is in sharing, working at finding a solution listening to the venting adding a bit of humor. If you have no problems you don't post much cause you don't need the help. That is the largest group as you will see by the number of folks active here. It's a learning site a lot of diy teachings, many aftermarket issues. So use it as a reference and think of it as problems that could happen not that this is what will happen. If you go into this world in fear with only the negativity you will not find the magic...I saw an ad and liked it, went to the dealer and bought it, have had it for a year and a half, put 16,000+ miles on it and have never had a problem. I am on this site quite a bit and have hopefully helped those less fortunate but love the way it is managed. All here have the ability to communicate without vulgarity....oh :cus: just buy the spyder you will love it regardless of what you have read here...:ohyea:

Gene's right; listen to the voice inside yourself! It'll never steer you wrong!

There's a song out there... :D

In the last year I have put on about 15,000 miles driving here in AZ with my motorcycle and drive at least a few hundred miles a week with a group of riders on a regular basis.

The bike is getting older and I'm not getting younger, so I find handling a 800+ pound bike at low or no speed is not fun, thus I started looking at the Spyder again.

The 2013's seemed to have been really good initially when released, but there seemed to be some unhappy campers out there with them after owning them a while.

Heat is big issue for any bike in AZ.

Deals are on the 2013's and you can save about 4-5 grand on the out the door price or more over the 2014's for the same model.

The question is it better to go the extra bucks with the 2014 or is the 2013 deal to make and the bad rap about them isn't justified?

Just wondering if the 2014's will turn out like the 2013's and unforeseen problems will crop up. Buying the first year of a new model, seems to a risk no matter the product.

However, some 2014's have been in owners hands and so far while most reviews have been good, there seems to be some differences from the 2013's or older bikes that could make a difference. The only slight difference so far seems to be in acceleration from a standing stop. One comment made was that the older bike seemed to accelerate faster than the 2014, which is surprising. They said that 2014 does accelerate at speed better, but really what's the difference?

That's why I was wondering what the long time owners think now that they have the 2014's.

Just curious.
