• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just asking.....

Why does the Spyder make a high pitched noise for 40 minutes after shutting down? What purpose does this serve? What continues running that needs to continue running?

It should not be 40 minutes, maybe 10.

If memory serves me right, it has to do with something being held closed in the air intake for some time.

Nope, not referring to the fan. There is a very faint, high pitched tone that can be heard for 30 or 40 minutes and my garage after I shut down.

Gas cap???

Hi :spyder2:,

Try loosening the gas cap when you hear the noise. I've lost my high pitch hearing a long time ago so I don't hear anything high pitched.
Just a thought?

Not sure about 1330 but 998 holds the throttle plate open to avoid flooding on next start. That's the sound you hear.

You did not share with us what kind of Spyder you are talking about. So I will assume your mystery Spyder has a 998cc engine. Many people do not hear it but that is the sound of the throttle plates being held shut for 40 minutes until your engine cools down. This was a feature added to correct a hot engine no start problem.

Nice to know

This I did not know, great information. My hearing is shot so I've never heard this on the wife's 998 but now if she notices it I can answer....love the way this forum makes me look smart ;-)

There you have it....

My hearing has changed but do know it varies in how long you hear it...but :agree:....

Hi Billy,

Re: a feature added

I'm still new to SpyderLand, what year was this added?

I am going in tomorrow for a hearing test; and I think that I know what they will be telling me. nojoke

I think it was added to 2011 RT models and I think added to the 2010s by software update. Not a problem on 2012 and earlier RS because the throttle is mechanical. It's held shut by springs.

it's humming because it doesn't know the words to the song. :D
Billy is 100% correct! The 2010s had a little bit of problems getting fired back after, after they had partially cooled-down. This was added to the 2011s to hold the throttle bodies shut for the 40 minute period of time.
If you had a 2010 that was tough to re-start; you could help it get going by just cracking the throttle open a tiny bit...

It is definitely a pressure whine/whistle from the gas cap - open the cap and it will cease immediately.

You guys are geniuses! It is related to the throttle body. Your explanations make perfect sense. Thanks!:cheers:
