• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just an Observation

My Generation

I'm getting old, it must be that because I always thought flip-flops were rubber sandals held on by a rubber strap thingie between your toes!!

So I'm guessing you also know what at Bistable flip flop is, not to mention a full or half adder.

I only had a passing knowledge of Hollerith cards. When I first started computer studies at school we had to write our code on coding sheets and then type it in on a punch card machine. The cards were sent off to the local University and two weeks later we'd get a print out of the result or, if you were unfortunate, just the word ERROR. About mid-way through the year the school got two Commodore Pets - at the time they seemed incredible.

Any sorry about that - back to the world of Spyders:-)

"Bistable flip flop is, not to mention a full or half adder" - I have no idea what that is. Hollerith, either!

But in my college programming classes we had to do all or work on card punch machines, sort them, then had them to a computer lab assistant to run our program. The next day we'd get the results. We'd turn the results, our hand-written algorithm, and hand-written code in to the teacher.

Later, a teacher took us to the attic of the old building where the computer science department was located, and showed us the upcoming thing - PCs!

Hey, let's give those guys who dredge old posts some credit! At least they're searching and reading! Ain't the failure to do that one of the chief complaints by old timers here? :banghead:

Agreed! Sometimes there is new information that can help the OP as well, especially in the Tech/Shop sections of the board.

...If the word Hollerith means anything to you, you too are antique, not just an old timer!!! :roflblack:
Hollerith? OMG!!! That gets us almost back to Babbage! :yikes:
I had just about completely forgotten "Hollerith" until this post... Memories! :roflblack:

But seriously, there is no such thing as an "old post" to a newbie. Just like a 50-year-old joke is still new if you've never heard it.

+1 :p

I'm a newby here but antique as to age. New to Spyders and Spyderlovers forum.

Old posts get resurrected because of the old timers on the forums reactions:
1) If I post a duplicate of a previous answered question, well...:yikes:
2) Now I find if I dredge up an old post, well...:yikes:

Not complaining just observing. I do appreciate the lack of bickering on this site compared to other 'trike' sites.
Above observations were experience from the other site.

I must be ancient

"If the word Hollerith means anything to you, you too are antique, not just an old timer!!!"

I have been riding for about 65 years and was into my career when I met Mr. Hollerith. To the poster who referred to knowledge of punch machines but no knowledge of Hollerith, they really neglected your education.

:hun:

You've got to be kidding, right? Hollerith died in 1929. If you're still riding at around age 105 you're not only antique but damn tough!

How do you like the Slingshot?

They are starting to show up at dealerships and I love the look. How do they drive?

QUOTE=arntufun;938344]I do it on purpose so I make others including the OP angry.......................:roflblack::roflblack:[/QUOTE]

Global Warming and Snow storms do this to people because they can not get away from there significant other for a little bit to do a Spyder Ride!

I can remember a lot of those old computer terms. Babbage, double adder etc. But I suppose I learned others that are gone now. At our age, the young bucks throw out the word dementia at times. Well what they call dementia is really selective memory in my opinion.

Several years ago, like some computers, my memory banks got full. To add a new memory, I had to throw something out. To learn something new something else had to go. What I had for breakfast yesterday is not important enough to loose a childhood memory over so I don't remember it.

This conversation has revealed to me where some other parts can be purged for reuse. Like punch card machines, re entering the data on the verifier and then wiring the punch boards. My first home computer was Heathkit H8. 'Your H8 is up and running' Beep Beep.

Oh my gosh, what was this thread about, I forgot.

Not Picking on Anybody

I was just curious if winter cabin fever or plain old boredom had anything to do with it, nothing personal. Instead, I learned from this that people more or less mine this treasure trove of information. If I offended anyone then I sincerely apologize as there was no intent to cause any trouble.
