• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just an inquiry about purchasing a used spyder

I bought useed Bike

After what seemed like a frustrating year(3 months actually) I stumbled upon someone selling a 2009 GS here on SpyderLovers. It was a great color and had tons of extras... It was very close to the price I wanted to pay. I guess one of the key elements was that the owner kept very detailed records of all servicing done on the bike. Although he was higher in miles... mileage on a bike is nothing like mileage on a car.. I am kind of reluctant on a bike that's low in mileage because that's a hell of a purchase to have just sitting in the garage. It makes me wonder if something is wrong with it and they're not disclosing. Advice ! check and see if the bike is still under warranty... if so see if you can purchase the extended warranty.

If you're new to "clutchful shifting"; it would really be worth it to take an MSF course pretty soon!
YEah, I'm actually trying to take the course this week if not the next :| I'm a bit nervous but I'm pretty confident Im just being very dramatic lol
don't pass the sm5 by! it will take you about 15 minutes to catch on and you'll think you've been riding one for years. the feeling of shifting is dynamic and creates the old adrenalin rush. it's all an adrenalin rush, but the sm5 is just that little extra!
Yeah, my older brother had a couple crotch rockets when he was younger and when I told him I wanted the SE5 he was like " why would you want that?? manual is more fun" :roflblack:

You know the same thought went through my head as well. I see some bikes with really low miles and I'm thinking 'wow you had this and never used it??' I do have a strange comfort in bikes with higher miles only because they've for sure been broken in and given time for things to go bad :dontknow:

RE: 2008 GS SM5. That was the first :spyder2: model that I purchased. I put 23,500 miles on mine before trading it for my 2010 RT-S. No mechanical issues or problems whatsoever in two seasons of riding it.

Any obvious differences?

Other than the name :banghead: are there any differences between the GS and RS?

To my knowledge there were no differences in the machines when they changed from GS to RS.
The 2009 SE5 I purchased was designated RS.

I believe there was some mention long, long, ago that they changed it to RS (Roadster Sport) so that it would eventually fit with the RT (Roadster Touring) concept.

:doorag::thumbup: Thx for clearing that up

I purchased my 2008 SM5 with 22000 miles. I asked my local CAN AM dealer about the miles. They said the miles aren't bad for one of these machines. Nothing to worry about.

Take your time and check out leftovers with the rebates BRP may still offer!
If its a couple 1000 difference why not get a Great Buy on a leftover 2011 or 2012 with a standard factory warranty?nojoke

I bought an early leftover from a dealership up here in NY. I liked the idea of a new ryde, and it was only a couple grand more than the used ones. As a matter of fact, Many of the used ones with low mileage were similar in price. I come from a snowmobile background and am of the belief that when you buy used you stand a good chance of inheriting someone else's problems, which is often the case if you Know little about the machine. And everything I know about my spyder I have learned in these forums since I bought mine.
