There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Jury Duty

IMHO it is a job we should take serious.......What if it was a trial about a serious SPYDER accident and because you were not there they person who caused the accident got off scott free. Or on the other hand someone who was wrongly accused of something and got sent away because they could not find an impartial jury....

Now let me get off my soapbox and get back to work..........

Thanks. I thought I was the only one that didn't mind jury duty. August 2011 was my last serving, and I was told I'd have to wait another 6 years.

I found it quite interesting the way some jurors come to their conclusions. In the jury I was on there were a number of charges that had to be decided. On the most serious charge, there were 2 of us who voted for a lesser charge, and it became 10 to 2. Very interesting why the other 10 wanted to convict for the more serious charge. When all was said and done, he was convicted on the lesser charge. I think there were 4 other charges that we pretty much agreed on from the start.

i was permanently excused years ago after my prostate surgery. i told the judge that i pee often since the surgery, and if they didn't mind me getting up when i had to go during the hearings, i would be happy to serve. they dismissed me. if you can get a letter from your doctor saying you have a problem, you can be dismissed

my union offered a citizenship course. if you took the course, you were paid 75 bucks a day between the courts and the union

I was picked for jury duty once. Was hoping one of the lawyers would ask me a question or let me raise my hand.

The guy charged with possession with intent to distribute had the same last name and looked a lot like a guy I had in some of my A&P classes.

For some odd reason, there were a group who were out on good behavior going to A&P school. We called that group the crims. Don't lend them a tool, because you will never see it again.

I'm glad I was picked and feel justice was served. Once into the trial, I had no bias. The kid was bad.

Oh yeah, the trial took four days, we got $10 a day, but parking was $15. Go figure...

:agree: with you all. If I'd been picked I'd have served dutifully. I have been on two juries before, one was a manslaughter case and the other was prostitution.

Just a few years ago I was called up. I think it was a drunk driving charge where the BA number was right on the edge. During the questioning for the jury selection process the defense lawyer and I got to discussing how I would be interested in the calibration and accuracy of the lab equipment used for such things. The prosecution lawyer preempted me!

In Texas, manslaughter is a serious case. You have to fill out paperwork saying you are able to sentence a person to death. I cannot do that with a clear conscience.

Depending on the circumstance, i could do it easily.

For many years we (law enforcement) were exempt from jury duty. A few years ago that changed and we had to go through the motions if called up. I've only been called up once but was excused.

186 days and counting.

 I was waiting for this to pop-up in the thread...
If a criminal does something so horrible; you're not the one sentencing them to death: they are.
We all have an innate sense of what Society's rules are. If you violate those rules; sanctions are necessary.
Their own actions, sealed their fate. nojoke
I could do it in a heartbeat, and then pull the trigger on them myself...

Lawyers are lawyers...

Take the case of the husband out running errands. He comes back home to find his wife stabbed to death and his toddler in shock. He had his wife's blood all over him when the police showed up.

The husband was on death row for around ten, fifteen years. The prosecutors didn't think the statement said by the boy "A monster killed mommy" or the neighbor who saw a unknown man running out of the house viable evidence, so didn't forward it to the defense.

That prosecutor is no longer a lawyer, but the father never got to watch his son grow up.

Then there's the case where the Grand Jury (hand picked down here) threatened the witness and put her in jail until she took back that her boyfriend was at her house at the time of the cop shooting. Also, he was on the phone at the time of the shooting. Funny how that never got looked at.

I could go on and on...

Sentencing a person to death on the words of a lawyer is something I couldn't stomach.

Patti when, last year, I was called to jury duty I was scared sh*tless.

I first called my attorney.
He said yes, since I was a farmer and self employed i could probably get out of it, but he said I would regret it.

OK, I went.
It was the first time I saw how our judicial system worked.

I’m glad I did.
The jury pay plus my mileage really helped the cash flow:joke:

Joy,
I understand that mistakes are made... but it seems crazy to let the entire system of justice be run by the fear of such a tragedy...

Let the criminals live in fear of a system that WILL delver swift, severe, and certain justice!
Then, we won't have to worry about these things. :D
