Here in the desert, we are seeing daytime highs above 110 and nighttime lows right at 90 for the foreseeable future. My neighbor's daughter was here for a few days to take care of some business for her mother. Before she left, she told me she was going to strangle the next person who said to her "but it's a dry heat"! Four days here did her in. She was very glad to head back up north. This heat does take some getting used to. And caution too. It's very dangerous, especially for us older folks. The first thing I do every morning is pour myself a great big cup of ice water. It's with me all day and gets refilled several times throughout the day.

News reports now are saying the all-time high temperature for Earth may be broken in Death Valley this weekend. I can't imagine that kind of heat! Stay safe..... Jim

We'd sure welcome that! Unfortunately, too many people do not heed warnings about how the heat can quickly overcome. I just read about people flocking to Death Valley to experience the potential record high temperature. A lot of people will lose their lives in this heat. I'm staying inside and praying my air conditioner keeps working...... Stay safe and dry. Jim

It is HOTTTT out here in the desert for sure. The temp on my patio around 6 was 118. It is currently 125 in death valley. This week will be a little cooler though. I have to take my spyder in to Henderson Nv for the brake light recall this coming Friday. It's about 1 1/4 hrs drive. Only will be 110. Lots of stops and hydration OR postpone the appointment.

It was beyond hot riding the interstates today, at times the air temp on SLEDGE said 115° that was the highest I saw.

I had a woman in South Caroline ask me if it was hot wearing a jacket, I said it's hotter without one and you dehydrate faster.

Every stop was a 50/50 mix of water and Gatorade, I drank 124 oz o that mixture.

I'm tired,,, but I feel good, time for bed.

I have found that a cooling vest works well for the length of time of your ride. Not expensive and keeps your core body temperature down. Something you may want to look into. Good luck..... Jim

Today, here in Vermont, we had thunder showers. The current temp is 77 degree, muggy.

The rest of this week they are forecasting rain. Also, we will have some dry days, which we need.

OK, mother nature you can shut off the water faucet here in Vermont :roflblack::roflblack:

Give us some sunshine, cooler temps.

...Still sending Prayers for those in the 'Flood Zones'. .............

Here in Indiana my local area weather has turned out great. Sunday's afternoon rain showers were the best of the month of July. I received .3" of Rain yesterday. The cracks in the yard are going away. So I will have to cut some grass this week. Oh well, I had 3 weeks off on my yard work.
Time to get out there and enjoy some grass cutting.

Today's numbers are 81°F with some clouds and maybe rain showers coming in the afternoon.
Low at 58°F.
Currently we have overcast 'Canada Smoke' sky and 67°F.

Jim, any suggestions?

The one I have is a Chill-its 6665 wet evaporative vest from Ergodyne Tenacious Work Gear. It's a vest that you soak in water. I wear it over a thin t-shirt. It will provide good cooling for a couple of hours when riding. Then it can be "recharged" at a gas station sink and is good for another couple of hours. When on tour, I kept mine in an oversized plastic bag, fully soaked and ready to put on as needed. The vests run very large in size. I come in at 6' and 260 lbs. Started with a XXL and it was too big. Went to an XL and it is just right! Good luck..... Jim

Today here in Vt. in my area, it is sunny and Not raining.

The temp is 79 degrees. Feels like 83 degrees Wind 8 mph SW 0 precipitation, 58 % Humidity, 3 UV-Moderate, 9 miles Visibility, 66 dew point, 29 pressure.

They have a Air Quality Alert that was issued on July 17th, @ 3:22 pmEDT until Tuesday 7/18/2023 The air quality is expected to approach or exceed the Code Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups catergory due to fire particles from the wildfire smoke.

Also, they have Flood Watch issued July 17th @ 3:02 pm EDT Flood watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Late Tuesday night......... Portions of northern New York, including the following counties, Clinton, and Essex also for central and northern Vermont.

When..... From Tuesday afternoon through late Tuesday night.

Impacts.... Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood prone locations.
Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.

Additional Details......

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected Tuesday afternoon and evening, due to saturated soils and the potential for 1 inch per hour rainfall, there will likely be renewed threat for flash flooding in the any stronger storms.

Tuesday 7/18/23

:coffee:...Well folks the long awaited rain showers are here. Yesterday we received about, .4" at my house. Today is going to be a sunny day and no rain in the forecast. I will try and cut the grass today.

Still Praying for Safety for flood areas. Several more States are having some issues. Stay away from the moving water.

Today we will have some sunshine mixed in with clouds. High of 81°F. Low of 63°F.

Stay Safe and Enjoy your Day.

Same ol' weather here in the desert S.W......HOT!!! I think today will be the 20th consecutive day of temperatures above 110. Last evening we had a dust storm move through. It lasted about an hour. The air turned a light brown with gusty winds. By 8PM it was all over. Today is sunny with some high thin clouds. The high will be about 117. Stay safe..... Jim

Edit for correction.

I just got the correct info. Today will be our 19th, not 20th consecutive day above 110. That sets a new record for us. Also we have had 8 consecutive nights when the "low" has been above 90 degrees. That also is a new record. I had a couple of errands to do today and used my golf cart. Even 10-15 minutes in this heat wakes-up the sweat glands.....

This Summer has been a very challenging experience with the rain and heat. Thankfully it has been doable for the most part. We are suppose to get some late afternoon rain showers here in Indiana. Currently cloudy and some smoke and 62°F.

High today of 85°F with sunshine and some clouds. Maybe get some rain tonight.
Low of 68°F.

Stay Safe and Enjoy your Ryde Times. ....

Nice rain this morning to keep the grass green and growing. Temps should be in the mid to upper 80's. Looks like it's going to be a nice one.

Today here in Vermont it was sunny and we didn't get any rain!!!!
The current temp is 76 mostly clear.

The temps today were in the 80's. Sunny.

We had an other round of flooding & Thunderstorms on Tuesday, we are finally looking at a couple of dry days today and on Thursday. We can't make it to 3 nice days though. On Friday, we have another frontal system will move through with yet an other round of showers and thunderstorms, which could, again, lead to flooding problems.
There may be a few, lingering showers into Saturday, otherwise for a change, the weekend is actually looking pretty decent. And it will stay dry into Monday.:yes:

Then the active weather pattern will continue with an other front coming through on Tuesday with more showers & thunderstorms.

Will some one do a sunshine dry day dance for us here in Vermont!!!!!

(off topic.. There is one town in Vermont that has no water, no portable water. They have NO water. They haven't had any water since 8:00 pm last Monday night, which was the day of the storm. They go thru @ least 2 1/2 pallets of bottled water a day + about six to 800 gallons of well water every single day. A store in that town doling out the free water brought to them by local volunteer's and the Vermont National Guard. The village has been stuck in that situation due to damage sustained to the road that leads to the water system. Hopefully the town will have water by tomorrow afternoon. An other issue is that the sewer line up there is completely warped. That will have to be rebuilt and service connections are going to have to be reestablished. Us Vermonters are not out of the woods yet!!!!!!).
