There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Judge fines Greenpeace USA $2,500 / hour

I was just admiring some of the protesters Petroleum-made equipment used to suspend themselves from the bridge.

I suppose these people live in a tent in the woods and do not use any oil or oil by-product in any way. :roflblack:

Hi Bob,

Re: Morons

That is simply too harsh IMO regarding someone who disagrees with you.

We all have the right of free speech and the right to free assembly.

I disagree with their methods ( because it is impeding someone else ) but I could never call them that.

YMMV

So what should we call these fine upstanding citizens that are causing trouble?? I know :cus: morons...

Hi Jerry,
I have no problem calling them that. ;)
After all; they're also free to tell me EXACTLY what they think of my own lifestyle.

What useful reason could they have had for their actions? :dontknow:

To quote a wise "Gump":

The fine was way too little.

Shell is paying $2500/hr for the boat, so this is not covering any of their costs beyond that.

I'm not sure why they didn't cut them down earlier.

It was cool seeing the helicopters making all the waves to "assist" the kayaks in clearing the area.

Greenpeace has done a lot of good by calling attention to some offenders that pollute our planet that our government has turned their head away because someone was paying them to keep their mouth shut...... and they also have cause a lot of attention to some countries/groups that continue to kill protected species... so I think they are doing some good.. they may go to some extremes.. but sometimes that what it takes to get attention..

Hi folks,

This Greenpeace protest is now into its 2nd day: http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2015/07/judge_fines_greenpeace_2500_fo.html

I believe in being able to protest. But you may not impede me.

Jerry Baumchen

the fine is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard... first of all, the authorities will never collect the fine(s)!!
secondly, why don't the authorities arrest the idiots OR just cut the ropes and dunk the stupid protestors in the water?????????
BIG F

Hi Big F,

Re: just cut the ropes and dunk the stupid protestors in the water?????????

I grew up very near that bridge; I have walked & driven over it nearly all of my life.

To cut the ropes would have meant certain death; they would not have survived the impact.

I do hope that is not what you advocate.

My bet is none of those people could last a week without petrol-based products in some or another. There just about isn't anything that doesn't use some form or derivative of oil.

Just look at the equipment and clothing these people are wearing... made from petroleum. The kayaks were all made from oil. :roflblack:

If they want to make a point, then they should lead the way by showing everyone how to live without using any oil. I am all ears... DEAD SILENCE as expected. They are hypocrites in my opinion.

They're not so much protesting oil drilling as much as they are drilling in the Arctic. Who knows what the long term effects would be from a well drilling accident in the cold of the Arctic waters? You've got to admit any well blow out could be a centuries long disaster, and based on what happened in the Gulf we can never 100% trust corporations to get it right. There is still oil residue in the sands from the Exxon Valdez accident, and that was 26 years ago and miniscule in size compared to the Gulf blow out.

I'm not advocating the Green Peace tactics, but I don't trust Shell either.

If we want to worry about what some oil drilling disaster that MIIGHT happen in the future; MIGHT do to us...

...Hell; why not worry about that big meteor that ALSO coming our way? :yikes:

(Maybe...)

The BP oil spill in the gulf was the most catastrophic oil spill in history.. the full effects won't be known for decades... oyster beds that once were some of the best oysters won't support life anymore .. the spill has killed thousands of fish including dolphins.. shrimp harvests has declined... marine life will never be the same... when marine life is affected... human life will also suffer..
I a salute any group that calls to mind what an accident could do to our planet...

Hi Bob,

Re: ...Hell; why not worry about that big meteor that ALSO coming our way?

Because an oil spill is something we can prevent. That big meteor we cannot stop.

Some people think small & some people think big.
