Jacking Up the RT

About to start installing the Baja Ron sway bar, any good advice on a method to jack up the RT? I have car ramps to start the process, what's the best and safest way from there? I have a floor jack not clear how much more it will raise the RT? I have a motorcycle jack I use to raise my Gold Wing to change tires.

:shocked: You'll end up needing over 20" of lift. (I think!)
Can you lift, secure, block, and lift some more?
I'd try using the lift, stuff a couple of car ramps under the tires, then drop the lift, and put enough blocks underneath it to gain the necessary height...
But it sure would scare the heck out of me while doing it! :yikes:
Please be careul, and take lots of pictures for the NEXT person to try it!

Hi Bob, thanks for the input. Question: where should I lift it, like my Wing in the middle so the lift is balanced or under the nose in between the front wheels?? Is there plastic or sheet metal under the frame I need to worry about in between the wheels or in the middle?

lift it right from under it's belly; all three wheels should come right up!
If they don't; just move the lift fore or aft a bit... :thumbup:

Just installed my sway bar last night with ramps only. Its kind of tight but very do-able

Crawled under the scoot everything looked okay so I rolled my lift underneath and jacked it up. I started by blocking my rear tire then lifted the front with the jack directly behind the front tires. Once high enough slide my car ramps under then added 2x6's one at a time as I continued to pump up the jack. Once high enough made sure the mechanical hard stop was engaged on the jack then crawled under to start the process.

By the time Arthur arrived, I had the old bar out and the new bar in, now starts the buttoning up process. Once our uninvited guest (Arthur) leaves at some point tomorrow morning and the driveway isn't under water I'll finish it up. Not as challenging as I though, scary part was jacking up the scoot for the first time.

For just the Baja Ron bar, I don't see why not. I did and had no issue. The only issue was getting it high enough to get the proper clearance with the tools I had on hand. :yikes:

I used car ramps on top of 2 2x12s. then a platform for the rear wheel that is the same height as the ramps. Now the tricky part, use a 4x4 block on top of a floor jack and lift only the left side front wheel. Have a friend ready with the bar as you lift. It is a lot easier to lift at an angle and you wont have to lift as high. Having the other two tires on the ramp and platform keeps everything stable. It is unsettling to see the Spyder at such an angle but it won't flip over, the floor jack can't go that high. I put the 4x4 on the jack so as it lifts the corner locks into the floor jack cradle. When you are done sliding the bar in lower the jack back down so the tire rests on the ramp again. Then button everthing back up. The holes for the block bolts are a little big so the bolt is sloppy, makes the front end "click" from side to side so I put a couple small nylon wedges to firm it up. Good luck with your install. You will love the way it feels in curves.

Here's what I did...jack it only on the frame

Here's what I did for the BajaRon swaybar install on my 2014 RT -- good luck:thumbup: This also shows where I put the ATV/Motorcycle lift -- on the frame only....

The ramps/stands gets the bike up to about 18" clearance of the frame to the ground (after using the jack to get it there). I did all the work with it on these ramps at that level EXCEPT to remove old bar and put new bar in. At that point of removing the old bar (all prep done), I used my motorcycle jack to lift it approx. another 2 inches to clear taking the old bar out and the new bar in -- this took all of about 30 seconds...after that, I lowered it back down on those ramps to make it very stable/safe.

Short answer -- about 20-21 inches from frame to floor to remove bar and replace with new bar. :thumbup:

BTW: Ron's instructions were excellent! :thumbup:

One more farkle completed! Bajaron Sway Bar Install

Just completed another farkle on my 2014 RT Limited:yes::yes::yes::yes: Easy, easy...just need the clearance for the sway bar. Here's a couple of pictures of the Bajaron sway bar installed along with the Bajaron heim joint links....

Used my ATV/Motorcycle jack and used car ramps and blocks to support the load once it was elevated....left jack in place as back-up. Worked great!

It's great that it's warm enough to work in the garage -- zero miles on this beauty. Hopefully get out in April.....March looks cold, snowy yet and..............roads are terrible. :banghead:

BTW....one grommet left it's frame when I pulled off the panels for the first time....time to cable tie the gromments in so they don't get lost and the panels stay on!!​
