There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Jacking up spyder

I have a motorcycle jack I got from sears. It's only 3 1/2" high so it will go under the Spyder very easily. If I just want to raise the front I just center the jack coming in from the front just at the back end of the skid plate. This will allow access to anything on the front end of the bike. Just be aware if you have the trailer hitch not to raise it too high and drive the mud flap on the hitch into the pavement.

If I want to raise the whole bike I roll the jack in from the right side so the left rail of the jack is just in front of the cat. This is the balancing point for my RT. I can raise it up about 17" and put jack stands under the rear shock and under the A arms. Makes it real easy to get under the Spyder to work on it. :2thumbs:

+1 sears

got the YELLOW higher end mc jack from sears not the RED one. well worth the quality upgrade. plus the Yellow sits lower when at lowest point if needed on other bikes...

Lamont has a pic of jacking up RT when doing oil change. shows exactly where. went to harbor freight got 2 sets of heavy steel jack stands and now have one spare stand :D... one under each front arm and one in back under shock

I rolled both front tires onto foot long 2x6's to get the ground clearance needed to get my floor jack under the front end when I was adjusting my front shocks.

Lamont, could you post the name of the manufacturer of your trolley jack? With its 2 supporting arms it looks to give a more stable lift to the Spyder's chassis than the common type of jack which has only a single round plate at the contact point. :helpsmilie:

Thanks. :f_spider:

This is the one I got from Sears. It's aluminum and slides easliy under the Spyder. Works great. :2thumbs:

I use a standard automotive floor jack from Sears. I run the RT up on a set of ramps to get the clearance to get the jack under the front but a couple of 2 X 6's as GadgetGuy mentioned would work just fine. There's plenty of clearance to get the jack under the side to raise the back or both ends.

Check your owners manual for the proper position to placed the jack that way ou don't damage anything.

Thanks, Y Rider.

With an hour spent searching the net I found this same item in the Sears Catalogue. Their USA web site told me that as a UK resident I could (only) buy it from a Sears International Distributor but when I phoned my Sears UK Distributor I found they only dealt with Sears Garden Products, great if I want a sit-on grass cutter but no-go for a Craftsman trolley jack for my Spyder!

I then visited the Craftsman site and ran into another supply brick wall. What I did find were many critical reviews on their web site from people who had bought their jacks, many of which were said to be suffering oil leaks and other generally poor standards of workmanship. So for the moment it's back to the drawing board. :(

As an example of shipping costs, I thought I'd buy a shorty antenna from ESI but they told me that [at a guess] it would cost about $100 to send a $20 antenna to me via USPS. In the light of this I trust you are all thankful to be on your side of the pond! :2thumbs:

Every 30 years, give or take, we have a Royal Wedding to shake us out of the gloomy disposition we Brits are unhappily becoming known for... you've got House so I doubt you need cheering up. ;)

otc 1545 lift

is anyone use or are familiar with this lift it goes from three inches to 17 would appreciate any feedback thanks.

I agree with Gadget Guy in that I drive my Spyder on to two 2x6's about 2 feet long and than any floor jack will fit under the bike. Just center the jack a little off the center line and than put jack stands under the bike to stabilize it.

I ended up buying this Arcan aluminum jack from a supplier on UK e-bay.

It has a low entry profile of 3.5" which makes it suitable for the RT and a 1.8 ton capacity. :f_spider:

I think you'll find another thread from Lamont on the RT. I just don't have it readily available.

Chris

Thanks, I've seen his RT thread-- I have an RS, I was deliberately doing it wrong by asking about the RS in an RT thread :sour:

That old Lamont thread showed how he jacked up his RS years ago. One of the commenters replied they thought under the passenger pegs was a risky place to put the jackstands. I know on the RT, some people put a single jackstand under the rear suspension. I'm just wondering what people who jack up their RS have the most success with back there.
