• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

i've got a question and it happens to do with birds!

One bird with the frunk. A guy in Spokane was riding in Idaho, no helmet law in Idaho so he was doing 70+ on his 2 wheeler and a bird hit him in the forehead. It didnt take him off the bike but the doctor had to remove bird beak and other stuff from the wound in his forehead. He now wears a helmet all the time.

Yup. Killed one with my CHAD shield. Someone out here took one straight on the faceshield---- not good

Ahh yes, the turkey incident. Can't remember her name but she had a picture of her and the turkey. She was the passenger, the driver ducked (oh, a pun?).

Never on Spyder, but two ducks on two different two-wheeled motorcycles (one was on a Ducati, so that seemed appropriate). Neither hit killed the ducks but the one that hit my handlebar and then rolled up and hit me in the shoulder, left a bruise on my shoulder (with armored gear) and almost rolled me off the bike. I hit it going about 65 mph. The other was a slow speed fender "tap" on a dirt back road in front of a farm house so no damage to bike, duck or me! Have also killed two birds and run over tail feathers of a peacock - also on two wheelers. Also fried one squirrel that tried to run across road but ended up mid-bike and got caught on the exhaust pipe - didn't find him until my next fuel stop and by then he was well done. Only death by Spyder was a snake in the road when I first started ryding the Spyder - was so thrilled to have "straddled" him with the front wheels....then remembered the back wheel and felt so bad :(.

Haven't hit a bird with the Spyder. A long time ago on an RD350 Yamaha I split a small bird with the visor on a Bell open face with half going over the top of the helmet and half down over the bubble shield. Several years ago we flushed a covey of quail alongside the road and missed all but one which hit my wife's right shin. She was wearing boots but it still left her leg bruised and sore for a couple weeks. I hit a turkey with the windshield of a car once. It shattered the windshield and pieces of it were all over the front seat. I would surely hate to hit a bird that large with the Spyder.

Why is the movie "Wild Hogs" flashing before my eyes??
I've killed a couple with my helmets over the years... Better to let the helmet take the abuse than your face! :yikes: I'm guessing that if they hit the windshield, it could be a REAL noteworthy event! :gaah:
Somebody here took out a wild turkey... THAT one did some bodily harm to them as well...

I was going to mention the turkey incident, but I see someone beat me to it.

I have hit a flock of small birds, working third shift and driving a country road between two corn fields. This was with my Nomad and only one actually hit me, on my left hand. Now I have had a lot of close calls with turkey buzzards on road kill.

have seen many birds in my handfull of riding years (started in 2007). The most memorable was, about a month or so ago, just out for a ride, no destination, we were coming down a country hiway, and a Bald Eagle took flight from a series of ponds that were waterfalling into each other. I think that was the Most Grand thing I have ever seen. Gods Majesty, right there in front of us.

Bird Strikes

A whole gaggle of Starlings took off and flew across road in front of me. The last one in line didn't make it. He hit me in the face and got stuck between my face and my helmet. It did not feel good.

Been There, Done it

The Spyder is my first bike, and I've got about 19k miles on it now, so maybe its a fluke that I've hit a bird and had one *seriously* close encounter with a Bald Eagle - swear it would have scuffed my helmet had I not ducked a bit.

But, I HAVE hit a Robin (the irony of that is NOT lost on me) - I was going about 55 mph in Madison WI - since I've got the sports windshield, it hit me square in the right Pec muscle - luckily I had the Dark Knight Riding Leathers on, so it took the blunt of the force - pretty sure it didn't survive.
Probably wouldn't have taken me off the Spyder, but I was sure glad I had a nice jacket / helmet - pretty sure that would have left one hell of a bruise.

For some reason I have always been a target for their droppings. Got hit many times while sitting at lights. Watching the fish at a sea park. Just out walking. :cus: I've never hit one on a bike. But many years ago had a bird that flew in through the right side window opening. Hit his self on the door frame, then fell in my sister's lap. That van wasn't long enough for her. I thought she was gone out the back door:roflblack:
