• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

FRUNK won't open... :banghead:
i just turned the key on my '09 RS to open the frunk, and heard a small unfamiliar 'klick' unlike normal click when turning key... and i also felt NO resistance on the key... now the frunk won't open... :gaah:

ANY IDEAS....? ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated... :coffee:

I read somewhere about using a screwdriver or a metal rod to release the mechanism. I could take a picture of the latch if that helps:dontknow:

I can't find the post now. But, someone with a 2008 or 2009 used a long, thin blade screwdriver from the fan side and lifted the trunk lid enough to slide the blade in to push the latch over. I don't remember if that long black plastic piece that runs the width of the trunk presented a problem.

I actually use an electric plunger (circuit energized continuously) to push the latch over to get into my 2008 trunk. Not that that does you any good.

I just tried the screwdriver method and there is no way that I could get it to work, especially with that long plastic piece in the way. If you really try to force the trunk lid up too much, it'll probably break.

If the cable didn't break at the latch end, try this:

I GOT IT OPENNED.... the guy that used a 'screw driver' must'a had a long one if u ax me... screw driver, that is... i lifted the Right Side Top Corner of the Lid... stuck a small MAGL lite between the lid AND fuse box cover - the plastic piece that goes from one side to the other, and with a length of dowel, about 24"X 3/8" dia., i was able to 'push' the latch and WA'LA, the Frunk Lid openned.... very eezzee, very clean...

rs frunk release

if the cable that releases the frunk is not damage this is an easy opening for you

remove the oil access panel if you have the torx remove the pannel above it

look in towards the frunk there is a black cable that comes down from the bars to the frunk goes across

it looks like a simple bicycle break cable gently but firm pull on the forward end (frunk end) this should release the latch i have a small cord attached to mine that i can access from the oil change panel for a just in case release

if this does not work the cable might be broken if the sheath pulls easily away from either end then its broken inside if its at the top pull the cable its self

hope this works gl

FIXED

I FRUNKED IT GUYS......
:gaah: the cable end at the ignition broke off... :yikes:

so i bot a 'choke cable' @ my local auto store, $7.99 and installed it myself... beats a bill from the dealers @ ova $200... :2thumbs:

It's a '2 motion' system now, versus an OEM '1 motion' system, but i think i saved a couple hundred buck$, so it's worth it to me...
y'all may wanna think 'bout put'n 1 of these in so that if u loose/lock your key, u'll have a safe and clean way to open your FRUNK... :ohyea:

Yup - That is the key, you also have to lift up on that fuse bank and coolant tank cover... Pretty easy to do actually. FYI.. The Frunk release cable is a pretty easy DIY replacement... If you have the Helibar riser block installed on your handle bar mount.

See, you can do it!!!

Sure it would have been better if we could have done it together... at least more fun... Good job!!:bowdown:
