• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

That's half the mountain! Saw this on the news this morning. Bet that would increase the pucker factor if you saw that coming down the hill. :yikes:

Wow..!!

:yikes:clean up on southbound lane...:roflblack::roflblack: that put a whole new perspective on those "Falling rocks" signs....

Oh Yes! We have some areas here where similar does happen. Usually once a year in Spring. The freeze thaw cycle works in cracks in the rocks and pops off large chunks like they were being excavated in a quarry.

Glad no one got hurt in the one above. We did have one like that which landed on a car. The driver survived.

As posted above, believe what the signs say.

See we don't have problems like that in the UK....well may be a few falling pebbles on a hillside.

How do you drive accordingly?
Do you go really slow and at the same time watch for falling lumps of mountain and hope that one doesn't
fall on you from behind?
Or do drive through that section really fast relying on the fact that you're a fast moving target that's hard to hit?

I believe that falling stuff travels at 120 feet per sec. or 9.8 meters per second squared so you're going to need lightning reactions to dodge it!

Good point about the "drive accordingly." I pulled that from my statement. I guess I meant drive aware. A fallen rock could be sitting in your lane as you round a blind bend in the road. I have met up with this many times. Driving slow or fast is not going to help if its your turn for a rock to fall down on your car or worse.

Same thing for our "avalanche zones." The signs say not to stop, but how fast do you go?? :dontknow::dontknow:

There are zillions of these 'Beware falling rocks' in New Zealand and I wondered what
you were supposed to do having observed the sign. So I had my umbrella at the ready
and awaiting deployment!
Now, if the sign said 'Beware fallen rocks' you'd have your eyes glued to the road ahead
and probably not see the 500 ton rock descending in your direction! :roflblack:

Heh, good point. "Fallen" rocks makes more linguistic sense.

BTW, in keeping with the theme... the potholes this year are the worst I've seen in the 23+ years I've lived in Washington. Some stretches are just buckled washboard and gravel, just brutal. Uncomfortable on the Spyder, but scary as :cus: on my Ninja. Safe riding out there, guys and gals...

Came around a turn last week and had to stop
There was a large bolder [not as large as the one in the picture] in the middle of the road
Call it in and stopped traffic so they could come and clear it
If I had hit it I would have stopped instantly [well the :ani29: would have stopped instantly, I would have gone flying]
They had to get a bulldozer to move it
