Thanks for the PM from oldguyinCT.:bowdown:
Do your research, get an anterior replacement vs a posterior. The former is MUCH less invasive, smaller incision, less swelling and bleeding, quicker recovery and easier PT. I've had 1 hip, both knees, thumb joint replaced, and ankle fused (waiting for replacement). I know of what I speak. If your surgeon doesn't offer it find another. Really trust me on this. Buy yourself a cheap exercise bike at Goodwill and set the seat at the lowest setting you can stand and ride the crap out of it. Good Luck.
You'll be amazed at how quickly you recover. One of the benefits of the anterior is there is way less chance of the joint popping out when you spread your legs (like when getting on the Spyder). Get some suspenders to take the pressure off your incision from wearing a belt. The surgery is a piece of cake, you wake up with a new hip and LOTS less pain. The drugs keep you pain free and they'll have you walking up stairs the next day. That was the test I had to pass to go home. Ease off the pain killers as quick as you can or you'll get stopped up, that was the second test, could I poop. I lied.I have. We are going to do an anterior. Thanks for the confirmation.
I have read/heard some anecdotal comments about one negative side effect of general anesthesia, and that is memory impairment. I'm fairly sure I suffered some also. That is, after a surgery under general, memory is slightly diminished. I don't know why nor how much, but I can't help but think that it did happen to me. It seems like my short term memory took a step drop down right about the time I had hernia surgery 11 years ago.Another decision I am pondering is choice of anesthesia. They offer an epidural version and a general version. Leaning towards general but am open to hearing what others think.
Anesthetics? the joker in me says to ask for a case of Captain Morgan...
The practical side of me will tell you about the last time that they chopped some bone out of my foot...
I chose the epidural... It was interesting to watch the sawbones stuff a chisel through the side of my foot, and beat on it with a hammer... nojoke No pain at all!
Well; it might not be everyone's cup of tea... but I sure enjoyed the show!I watched several videos of both types of procedures. Not sure that I want to be visually aware of what is taking place. :roflblack::roflblack:
