• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

It would be nice if BRP bought Harley so we had a large dealer base

About Ready To Buy, But should I after reading this thread

Well, I'm about ready to buy my first Spyder. My wife loves the idea, she thinks it is a lot safer. I'm moving from a Honda Silver Wing (got a neurological disease that makes foot shifting difficult). Few dealers, maybe this thing is a fad, does concern me. Although I did see a young family buying a Spyder three weeks ago.
Going for a test drive when I get back to town. So a multi question: Is this thing a fad? Everyone seems concerned about the number of dealerships, so does that say that reliability is an issue? Anyway opinions are encouraged, thanks

I don't think it's a fad. We may even add a second one to the stable if I can figure out where to put it. Our dealer says his sales are steady, 2-3 a month, which seems sufficient for him. As to dealers, there are a great deal more BMW motorcycles on the road, with just as strict maintenance needs, and there are far fewer BMW dealers than Spyder dealers. Doesn't seem to bother us, most Beemer riders put on tens of thousands of miles each year. If you want to address reliability, look at Nick Caro, Lamonster, Dltang, BLT, and others who have done tens of thousands of miles, ridden back-to-back iron butts, or have ridden to California (maybe twice). Do the test ride, maybe a couple so you get the feel for the machine. It is a super motorcycle!

Honda has been trying to buy Harley for years, It will never happen. But it makes me wonder, Honda's new M/C plant in Japan is reported to be able to produce about 100,000 more bikes per year than both their old plants, the one in Ohio they are closing down, if not already closed and their current plant in Japan and both of Harley's assembly plants. Somebody has big plans at Honda, just wonder what they are. I was in Ohio last June for the last Honda Homecoming, drove the Rune up and meet up with 9 other Runes. They were at that time producing 09 models, said 09 would be the last model year produced in US, but gave no offical date for the plant to close.

I kinda think the spyder's hand is played...the initial surge had shown signs of slowing back when I bought mine, just not all areas had caught up yet. A very specific group of interest purchased these machines. The units stacking up in some areas while people were still on waiting lists for others didn't make much sense. I really didn't get the problem with '08s not moving, '09s on the way and pre-purchasers were still waiting for their '08 to show up. I don't expect much more public reaction to them, they are pricey and there's a lot of buzz about all the problems. I'm sure there are a few stragglers still trying to get one, but even when the economy improves, I don't think there will be a huge run on these. There are rumors of Japan probing this market now, so that may slow spyders sales even more, I'd like to see if anything is on the way before I buy another...if I ever buy another spyder.
Didn't Yamaha show a three wheeler prototype at the 2008 show in Japan last year?
I have 2 dealers in my area one is East Coast Cycles, they sell about 2-3 Spyders per month, and also sell Honda, Susuki, etc... I was told if it wasn't for the Spyder, they wouldn't of had such a good year.
The other dealer sell nothing bur BRP products an seems to move about 3 Spyders a month this past year.

Yes, I think it was a street quad though, that's another market that G&G is trying to petition the US to legalize nationwide if it hasn't passed already. Quads are street legal here in AZ, but that G&G is well out of my price range.
