It would be nice if BRP bought Harley so we had a large dealer base

I would like to see BRP purchase Harley so we could go from a small dealer base to wham one every 50 miles open 7 days a week. Not a big fan of Harley dealers but it would be nice to have alot of service centers for our spyders:chat:.
BRP would purchase Harley I believe because they are a larger company with more resources.

Honda has been trying to buy Harley for years, It will never happen. But it makes me wonder, Honda's new M/C plant in Japan is reported to be able to produce about 100,000 more bikes per year than both their old plants, the one in Ohio they are closing down, if not already closed and their current plant in Japan and both of Harley's assembly plants. Somebody has big plans at Honda, just wonder what they are. I was in Ohio last June for the last Honda Homecoming, drove the Rune up and meet up with 9 other Runes. They were at that time producing 09 models, said 09 would be the last model year produced in US, but gave no offical date for the plant to close.

Well you guys may be on the right track.I think there is a deal between Harley and Honda.Honda just this spring bought the sound from Harley.Harley must go liquid at some point.Harley is a world wide name and that is a bigger market than any new model or two from MoCo.Many Harley dealers are hurting. The other idea I have is that Harley could buy Spyders from BRP rebadge them and make a killing.Bet they may do that.I have a dealer that I demo for and the older Harley guys and the first time women buyers are really ready to jump on the Spyder and forget about Harley altogether.Spyders are not cheap but I can buy 2 of them for the price of 1 Harley trike.

I think there is a deal bewtween the 2 or the three of them.I see more Spyder demo's around the country at basic Harley rallys.

Once the bugs are worked out and a bagger Spyder is available me thinks Spyders will sell like hell.

What do you guys think?

Might be nice to dream about such things - but they just ain't gonna happen.

All new Honda stores have to be 100% Honda only - no more stores that sell various brands. Honda already dominates the market - so buying HD wouldn't really make sense to me. I don't believe HD is the #1 American bike anymore as far as number sold.

BTW - HD has imported various parts from Japan for at least 15 years now - so much for 'American' made.

I kinda think the spyder's hand is played...the initial surge had shown signs of slowing back when I bought mine, just not all areas had caught up yet. A very specific group of interest purchased these machines. The units stacking up in some areas while people were still on waiting lists for others didn't make much sense. I really didn't get the problem with '08s not moving, '09s on the way and pre-purchasers were still waiting for their '08 to show up. I don't expect much more public reaction to them, they are pricey and there's a lot of buzz about all the problems. I'm sure there are a few stragglers still trying to get one, but even when the economy improves, I don't think there will be a huge run on these. There are rumors of Japan probing this market now, so that may slow spyders sales even more, I'd like to see if anything is on the way before I buy another...if I ever buy another spyder.

The Dealership network in Canada is growing rapidly. Two years ago there were only 4 dealers in Ontario, now there are a lot more. Having the Ski-Doo network to draw on can give dealers in every little Northern town. I would think that the Coasts would be great to utilize the Sea-Doo dealerships. Not sure about the states that sandwich the east and west coast though. I go to the USA a fair bit so hope that dealers are available when I ride (BEST Warranty would tow to the nearest dealer, but I don't want to make it a two day trip :gaah:)

Do you realy think we need that much service :dontknow:
How often do you intend to take your machine to the dealer.
I'm hoping I only need to take mine once in a blue moon.

There are many more Spyder dealers in this state than there are BMW dealers. I am satisfied.

The last figures I seen, from about a year ago, Honda sold a little less than 100,000 units, this included their ATV's, scooters, and off road bikes. Where Harley sold a little over 150,000 units. Down a good bit since they sold 250,000 in 03, 03 was a 14 month model year though. I hear some parts of the country are different, But my local Honda dealer still has new unsold 04 models on the floor.

I spent Jun 07-Jun 08 in Iraq, so I missed the Spyder buzz/surge, but this vehicle encouraged me to look into motorcycles. I'd never been into a dealership of any sort, but once I saw the Spyder online, I decided to investigate. Here in the heart of Texas, there are three Can-Am dealers within 50 miles of my house, so availability of dealers isn't the issue it may be in other places. The dealer closest to my house has several Spyders on his lot, most still in the crates, but still wants a premium price for them, even though he hasn't sold one for nearly a year. I'd agree that the market for these will be relatively low until BRP changes either its marketing or pricing strategy. The Spyder is simply not well known; since I bought mine, several of the folks in the office have expressed interest and wondered how they'd missed it. Not a good thing if you want to sell them.

That said, I don't mind being somewhat distinctive in ownership, and I think as long as enough of us hold on to the Spyder to keep the service and parts suppliers afloat, we'll be fine. My $.02

Honda can't give some models away.I heard of new G.Wings selling for $16K.They had ST1300's here for $9999.Spyder has so many snow dealers that starve in summer it is a no brainer.BRP has a very critical electric system and all the errors are tough to track.

I demo these for a dealer I know.People, older men who can't hold up the geezerglide any more and many women who want to ride and like the tri wheel concept are gonna buy Spyders or something like spyders.I am sure every maker we know of and some we don't have a 3 wheel concept trike. There is a China job for 3grand that looks alot like the Spyder.

My friend says that Ski-Doo and Sea-Doo about rule thier worlds,I hope Spyder does but they must get more tourable get better milage and be RELIABLE.

I have an Ultra that I love but the damn thing is 1000# and I worry at greasy stop signs.I could buy 2 Spyders for the price of 1 Harley Trike.

Spyder needs to make a tourer that gets good milage and is RELIABLE other wise I'm keepin the HD.

Us sharholders would have to vote on that but you never know these days America has been for sale for a long time now lets hope not:ani29:

Well we all know Harley does not have the capital to design their own products

As a follower of motorcycle trends, and news it is clear Harley does not have the capital to even design their own motorcycles. What Harley does is assemble motorcycle, paint tins, and does a little machining.

There is one single owner of 41 % of Harley stock they claim. It has been said that it is Honda. But the BRP Buell engine deal along with Harley purchasing Aprilia last years makes me wonder.

One of the mew Buells has a Rotax engine.

I had not heard that HD bought Aprilla. Also had not heard that Honda owns stock in HD.
