• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Isn't limp mode really dangerous

I've only had my RT go into limp mode once, while riding up a hill, in the right hand lane, and no traffic. It's pretty scary when you're cruising along and suddenly find your speed has cut to 20 mph. I just pulled off, cleared it and went on, no more problems.

But I was wondering what I would have done if I had been doing 75 mph, on a major interstate, with trucks and cars all around me! I think I know what I would have done, died!

Yet I've never read of anyone having limp mode kick in at a dangerous moment. Are we all just blessed?

I don't think you would of died, But you probably would have needed an underwear check.:yikes:
Your right though limp mode at 75 is dangerous.

I was doing 70 on the freeway when my RS went limp...like turning off the motor!!! :yikes: I was lucky that I had the SM, so I could pull the clutch & coast to the side at areasonable speed. The scary part was that I had to ride 12 miles back to the dealer on the side of the freeway at 30 mph... Or wait until the next day for a tow... Justified the upgrade to AAA Plus...

It has happened to quite a few people, and definitely gets your attention. Fortunately those who have reported it were able to make it to the side of the road without incident. I haven't read any reports yet where someone was in an accident due to Limp Mode kicking in at an inopportune time. Hopefully we never will see a report like that.

We all love our Nanny! :roflblack:
I guess that the cause of her getting frisky might be a viable topic here... If you're going down the road; minding your own business and suffer an electrical failure... :yikes: I guess that's a major concern. One problem shouldn't be compunded by others. :gaah:

But... What if you're pushing the envelope and Nanny pulls the keys out of your hands for doing something that the Spyder just ain't allowed to do? :dontknow:

I had a very close encounter of the limp mode kind that almost wiped me out. Highway speed in the left lane going around a right hander. Heavy traffic and my DPS fails and I head into the opposing traffic. Limp mode kicks in to add to the fun. Now I am fighting the bike and losing power. This is a huge design flaw in my mind and I hope they remove it. This isn't a Sea Doo where you are protecting the motor and gliding to a stop. If the DPS has a fault there is no need to take away power especially for those of us with an SE. I have no way to disconnect the drivetrain and coast. I immediately slow down, often dramatically!

I do not have a problem with "Limp mode" in general. After all... If we blow a tire, or something goes wrong on our cagers the vehicles have similar issues and or safety problems.

The problem I have (Are you listening BRP??????) is every single time it happens to me. All I have to do is turn off the key... Let it cycle through the power down... Turn on the key again and all is well. I mean the the heck?

They need to identify and cure the false positives that are causing the Limp Mode and let the actual Limp Mode system work as it is intended/designed.

I told my dealer about it. They put it on Buds and say no codes came up. I say thank you and go about my business. This past weekend it happened three times in two tanks of gas (300+ miles in one day), the last time it happened I got pissed off, stopped our ryde and drove it to the dealer so they could see it for themselves. The only weird thing... This last time the dash yelled at me telling me something was wrong, the power reduction did not happen and the bike performed 100% normal the entire 68 minutes to the dealer. :dontknow:

Anyway... I like Limp Mode, but am not fond of what I think are the false positives...

I haven't experienced any false positives, but agree that it would really tick me off if I did. Especially if it happened twice during 1 ryde.

There's just about enough computing power on thesepuppies to powerup a moon shot... If acomputer senses that something is wrong, it'll reduce power and start applying the brakes.
Causes...
Electonic failures
A sensor gets a reading that's out of spec
A false alarm:gaah:
The V.S.S. sense that you're pushing the bike to beyond the intended limits... :lecturef_smilie:

Oh noooo's!! You mean I should not be putting those little pills in the Gas Tank? :roflblack::p

limp mode

When mine went into limp mode when we had a DPS concern It would run 50mph in high gear 3650rpm It really wasn't that bad once we figured out what was going on:spyder:

:agree:BRP needs to step up to the plate and eliminate some of these dangerous limp mode conditions.

I was told it could be me leaving my foot on the brake peddle. But this is not the case as I have my feet up and no where near the pegs...

I bet we get some kind of BUD's update and all will be well...
