Is this normal??

I have attached a few pictures showing the location that my drive belt runs on the drive pulley. It is pretty much touching the outside of the pulley and has apparently been running there for some time based on the wear marks on the pulley that can be seen in the pics. Is this normal or should it be moved toward the inside? If so, how does one accomplish that being that the spacing of the belt on the driven pulley is right where it should be (1 to 2 mm gap). I am just wondering if this positioning might have something to do with the belt vibrations I have been fighting since new. This is on a 2012 RT Ltd. Thanks in advance for any help.

 You don't want it rubbing... at EITHER end of the drivetrain.
You'll need to move it the belt back "inboard" a bit.
There are lots of folks who can tell you the best way to do it; I'm certainly not one of them. :opps:
When in doubt; PM Lamont or Scotty.
Good luck!
By the way; mine ran about a thumbnail's thickness off of the rear pulley's inner flange. I never had any trouble at all with it there!

Thanks Bob. That is pretty much where mine is at on the rear pulley and if I move it any closer to the flange it is going to rub. I am wondering if this is a motor alignment issue. I am sure someone much wiser than me will render an opinion. All I know is it doesn't look right to me. :) And the belt was just adjusted by the dealer within the last 75 miles.

Have to agree..!!

:agree: having it re-adjusted may help. Also if you rotate the wheel back the tracking will change. Make sure you check it after Rolling forward till belt is tracking normally...if your not seeing a lot of belt dust around the cases or rear wheel you should be alright. If the belt has not been adjusted in some time wise to do that..!! !

The two spots seen in the below pic is what leads me to believe the belt has been running in his location for quite some time.

You are not the only one with a 2012 that has a belt problem.
BRP told my local tech they wouldn't doing anything about it.
I called & spoke with one of their guys about the problem &
he had me to take the spyder out of town to another dealer top
have it checked. The tech checked the bike & called BRP to let
them know what they found. Same answer to bad no fix it.
I sent you a PM check it & if you like I will tell you what was found later.

Poking around my 13 it does look like there are supports for the engine that "align" the engine in the frame. Possible one came loose or broke and the engine has twisted? From the looks of the pictures the engine has twisted and that is causing the belt to track left. On my 13 the supports are on the left side front of the engine from the frame to the mounts, might take a look in there and see... :dontknow:

I don't see a problem there. All that I have noticed seem to run up against the outside edge on the front sprocket.
The front sprockets didn't have an inside lip until 2011.
Check both sides of the belt, does the outside edge of the belt show any visible wear marks or look different from the inside?
I rarely see any with the recommended gap on the rear sprocket either, most seem to be up against the lip.

I agree as far as the front sprocket goes...although a bit of a gap would be preferable, most seem to run at the flange. In the rear, however, there should be a gap. The spec is 1 mm to 5 mm (1/32" to 3/16"). If the belt is running against the flange in the rear the alignment should be adjusted. Keep in mind that 1/32" isn't very visible. My test is to try to slip a thumbnail into the gap. If it goes, the belt isn't running against the flange.
