Is there a special wave for Can-Am riders??

I just stick my hand out to all riders and public servants, got to keep those officers smiling ;) I tried to convince the wife to do the hand feeling the air thing like on the commercials but she is an old stick in the mud LOL don't tell her I said that. :lecturef_smilie:

Sequimike you cracked my up with the bit about Harley riders and unicycles. That was a funny story.

I get less waves here in southern Indiana on my RT than I did on my Honda VTX V-twin but I kind of expect it is because they don't see me as a bike when we are headed toward each other. Yesterday some Harley riders and I arrived at a restaurant at the same time and I was somewhat concerned for what they might want to say about my RT. There were more of them than there were of me. But they were genuinely interested and we had a good talk. One of them mentioned ongoing physical issues in his back, as I have, and that he may be forced to consider a 3-wheeler. He said he liked the Spyder and would think about it.

One finger unicycle wave. Now that's funny.

Spaz Wave

I typically do the low, three finger wave to passing bikes, but I have a funny story,...

One day my wife and I were headed down a back road here in MD, and two other white RT's came through headed the other way. The first time we had seen one on the road out here near home.

We were both so stunned to see each other, us and the riders coming the other way, we did a weird, somewhat awkward, spaz wave thing that did not resemble anything "cool" what-so-ever! Haha! It was very funny!

Its all good, just keep your wheels pavement side down.

I tend to do the 3 finger. I did have a group of hogs follow me the other night. When I was at my stop they pulled in right behind me. They were a good bunch of riders that just wanted a really good look. They about jumped out of their skin when they opened the frunk and put eyes on my back up 9mm.

Well, now, THAT sounds familiar!!! DOH! :opps:

The second time I think I passed a Spyder the guy on the other RT went spastic as well. My wife said "holy crap that guy was sure happy to see us". I laughed my backside off he was one happy camper! The hand gesture reminded me of Tom Hank's in Castaway when he was trying to signal a ship about 12 miles away at night.

I wave whenever waved to but between the Spyder and the wife's Jeep (same as a bike all Jeep owners wave at each other) its hard to get a rest once and a while? My GM luckily solicits no response from other GM drivers.................thank goodness! Its all good................. When you think about it most of us like the attention the Spyder generates and to some degree that is one of the reasons we bought it, it's different.

I wave to all riders, those who dont get the one finger salute back . But do what makes you feel comfortable . Although I do like the 3 finger salute to other spyder riders .

Sometimes I pop the front of my helmet up wave both hand stick my tongue out and scream like the bike is out of control :yikes: Usually at slower speeds, but sometimes if I miss my meds it happens at faster speeds, and sometimes when nobody is around.

Three finger wave...

O.k., just have to get this off my chest. Not a hater or a flamer, just telling it like it is. At Spyderfest, got lots of the 'three-fingers-down' waves. I returned with a good ol' Mickey Mouse wave.

Everybody take their index and ring fingers of the left hand and point them down. Now take your thumb and point it down too. Swivel your left hand to see what you would be flashing to oncoming Spyders. It ain't PG rated in my book...

Or maybe thats just how my mind bends... :dontknow:

Well, I usually just give an open handed wave, sometimes, just the 2 finger peace sign, just depends on my mood that day I guess. If someone gives me a big wave (like a few have done on traditional trikes) I return the same. But, if I pass another Spyder rider, it is definitely a HUGE wave, since I don't see many others around this area (even though I know they are around). My husband makes fun of me when the Spyder riders wave really big, after they pass he give me the 'Spiderman Web Sling' hand gesture. I just laugh, it is like the secret 'code' between him & I because he knows just how excited I am to see another Spyder rider!

I wave the same way I have since the '70s...left hand down. I've never paid attention to the number of fingers displayed or anything like that. Since I've been on the Spyder the return waves I've gotten has dropped by about a third...mostly from Harley riders. (That's not saying anything against Harley...though I wouldn't own one...but just what I've observed here in Florida). I ALWAYS get a wave back from other trikes of any kind.

Whatever...I'll keep waving...it's just what I do.

sense of humor

When I rode my Goldwing life was simple - almost all bikes I passed in the opposite direction would wave and I would wave back. The Newbies usually had a high wave - something like you might give your grandparents after a weekend visit at their house. The more experienced riders would give you the low wave; one that acknowledged your presence on a motorcycle, but didn't get too excited about it. Occasionally it was just a subtle nod of the helmet, but it did at least reinforce the common bond between us.

Now that I'm riding a Cam-Am, everything is confused. Other bikers stare as I go by, unsure if I merit a wave or not. When I meet up with another rare Can-Am rider, it's high waves from both of us (see Newbie wave above), but others just don't know what to do. My question is - Is there a Universal Can-Am Wave (UCW) that I should be aware of? Perhaps holding up three fingers, to signify three wheels?? I did notice a couple of Harley guys giving me a one finger wave, but that confused me even more as they are not riding unicycles. Regardless, in an effort to form camaraderie I gave them the one finger Harley wave right back. It must have worked, as I could see them turning around in my mirror, but I was late for an appointment and didn't have time to stop and chat with them. Next time.
This post Rocks,.......Thanks.....Mike :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:.....

We must live in a strange area because just about everyone waves back here in central Missouri. I get waves from the HD folks, metric cruisers, sport bikes and even an occasional vespa type. The only exception has been the occasional 1% group riding in formation and then I usually get a wave from the tail gunner in the group. I've been on my Rt for a year now and the wife on hers for a couple months and loving the attention.

.

S.O.P., At least when i rode in groups', Way back in the last century [70's I don't ride in groups anymore.]
Only the point and the tail gunner Waved,
You really don't want a bunch of riders in formation flailing their arms . :yikes:
