• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Is there a pattern to this stupid instruction card?

I'm still new to my 2015 RT-S due to winter weather and slurpy dirt roads, but I've driven it enough to have HAD it with the Idiot Card on the dash. Sometimes I can start my engine without pretending I've read it AGAIN, and sometimes I can't. As soon as I've decided that it's all about how cool the engine is, it defies my expectations by either letting me crank her up without reading it when I'm expecting that I must do so, or making me read it when I think I won't have to.

Does anyone know what does and doesn't trigger this thing to deliberately annoy us?

You do not have to read it but ,you do have to wait till the computers boot up

If you have started the Spyder then turned it off you can restart without pushing the mode button if you do so within a short time. I can pump gas and restart without pushing the mode button.

Boot up

I have never pulled out my instruction card. Like was said earlier you have to wait for the computer to boot up unless you have only been shut down for a very few minutes. I turn the key on a minute or so before I am ready to start it. If you're going to rob a bank or something, leave it running.

Replace it with a more useful message...

There are times when the computer doesn't want to start the screen, seemingly no matter how long I wait, so I then pull out the card and do the mode button thing. But maybe I'm still not waiting long enough. I like Bensonoids comment that he puts the key in a minute or so beforehand. I've certainly not been waiting that long, so that's what I'll start doing. I'll just have to bring along a passenger to stay with the vehicle while I'm robbing a bank so I can leave the engine running!

Thanks, everyone!

I can usually do that too, but not always, even though the time frame seems to be the same, and that's when I realize that every conclusion I've drawn is wrong! LOL Thanks, Ann.

The time element is 5 minutes+/- that it will start without the mode switch. Other than that when the screen changes just hit the Mode switch and put your foot on the brake if its not in N, and it will start.

Just to be sure that we are on the same page ..................... Pulling out the card has absolutely no effect on the Spyder at all.

I sure hope the lawyers at BRP don't find out you aren't reading it before you try to start your bike :roflblack:

:agree: There is no switch or wire or sensor. The Spyder does not know or care if you have ever pulled out the safety card. It will start the same.

I don't just read it every time, I read it OUT LOUD, every danged word, to "Spyke" (my beloved Spyder) in a desperate attempt to placate her into doing as I plead.

Yes there is a pattern,
As you drive your Spyder it begins to trust you more and more.
Then you do something it doesn't think is safe or offends it sensibilities in other ways.
Then, you are back to reading the card.

:agree: x 2. It is the "MODE" button push that acknowledges to the computer that all is well. I have not pulled out the "idiot" card for a read in several years. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :roflblack:

That's what I've been afraid of. This machine is a COW (computer on wheels), so it's going to dictate my life just like my PC in the house does. And for 15X the price. Sigh ..... and yet, I'm still madly in love with her.

And............................you may find that she will throw you an occasional code--just to let you know who is really in charge. :roflblack::roflblack:

I think I may be repeating what was said in a previous post but in case not, here is how I do it.
Turn the key on.

No choice but to wait until the Can Am logo goes away and the first screen appears.

Hit mode.

Hit starter
and drive like heck with the bag of money...or at least a bag of....groceries! :roflblack:
