• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Is the Spyder slow?

Sooo how long did it take you to get to the point that you thought your Spyder was pretty slow? I have ridden bikes that you seem to hang onto the handlebars on launch and the Spyder doesn't do that. Don't get me wrong I am speeding by the time I am out of second gear on any road but a super slab and it does spin up fast enough it just seems the acceleration thrill is gone now that I have gotten used to it.:dontknow: It just seems to me to wind through the gears too fast to get the thrill back. :ohyea: My Gen1 Goldwing seemed faster ( I know it wasn't just SEEMED to be) than my RT.

Dave, I had an '08 GS/RS SE5 and now have an '11 RT-S. I will say the RS was very quick off the line and you did have to hang on to the bars. The RT-S isn't that way but I've found a way to make it as quick as I desire. Reach around the right grip further than normal and when you take off, roll it all the way back, "Hold On!!!!" The 200 lb weight loss and computer setting makes a huge difference.

It satisfies my "need for speed" when I have the desire. Otherwise it is very comfortable.

To check it out, if you're going to be at SF, take an RS for a demo ride and see if you feel the difference. If not at SF, then go to a Demo Day near you and give it a try.

I have never been one that thought the :spyder2: to be slow. I find I can get into trouble in any gear. That said, I usually go for smoothness rather than launch speed.

I rode with some BMW's on twisties on Saturday. I kept up with them quite well and left akspyderlady in the dust. (Which was okay with her). She likes to do her own ryde and in her comfort zone.

For me, the :ani29: is fine as it is--but I let everyone else ryde their own ryde.

Same here but I have 2012 RT S

Coming from 2 wheels, the Spyder RT is slow. My VFR800 would walk away from it in every gear. However, I bought it for what it is, a touring machine. For that purpose, the power is sufficient. And as stated, an RS will gap it pretty good, but the RS is a completely different animal. There really isn't an apples to apples comparison.

I agree 100%. There is a huge fun factor with it. My wife is the one who wanted it, but I have grown to really like it.

Same here :shemademe_smilie: But I see I am not the only one who thinks the way I do. I have fun with it and it is fast enough to get me a ticket. As stated above I too am working on the "smooth" concept now and getting the shifts so they are imperceptible. I guess I will have to get the wife back on it now that the weather has broken around here. Riding 2 up is a bit more challenging to me on the RT than single riding and trying to be smooth 2 up is harder but I will get there this year.

...not according to the Ninja that we met on the road the other day. He hit to try to leave us in the dust... we stayed right behind him. The way he looked back and did a double take was hilarious.

Ninja 250? 500cc or bigger will easily pull away from the RT through the gears.

well

We come back to the fact that this is not a motorcycle. Compared to bikes this is a massive machine bigger than some cars they are spitting out today. The weight to power ratio is a tad different. So if you continue to ryde both the spyder may seem to loose power but it is very quick for what it is...I feel no change since day one...

Speed Kills.....

Always one in the bunch, lol......

You live till you die so have fun till you get there. Yes, the RT is slow , even the 14 is not much better. However, it is fast enough and then some. I was behind a crotch rocket and I heard him rev the engine before the light turned so I was ready. He mashed it and took off running through the gears. I pulled some 8000 rpm shifts and kept right on his tail. He slowed back to 50 and at the next light he was next to me and commented on how fast my bike was. The Spider accelerates strong but can't hold up over 90mph. So its fast enough but we have to remember it has an extra wheel to drag, hugh frontal area and only a 990 engine with 5 speed.

The spyder is quick out of the hole but would not think of it as a fast machine, but what else is there to compare it to ? It's not really a motorcycle or a car. It's not gonna be a high speed machine when it a 2 cylinder machine and weighing 700 pounds and up before the rider is on there, it's a 5 speed geared engine and has finally drive sprockets that are the large size that they are. None of these are anything close to a top speed bike. I really like the bike as is , it's fast enough for any street around here and can get ya into just as much trouble as any bike or high performance car, breaking the speed limit by more then 20 mph is serious trouble anyway you look at it.

I would love to see some serious HP out of one these but I can't keep the tire from frying now under heavier throttle now what would another 50 be like??
