• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Is the spyder RTS a motorcycle?

What is the spyder? I see some stated requireing motorcycle licience and others not. Should motorcycle laws apply to the spyder? I think after owning and operating a spyder that it is in a class all to its own, not a car or a motorcycle .

its is classed as a motorcycle but to be more precise its a trike. Some states don't require a motorcycle license for trikes.

Here in MA it requires a motorcycle license although you can take a trike course and get a trike license so you don't have to ever ride two wheels if you don't want to.

What is it ?

DOT says it's a motorcycle. California says it is not, tho, if the two wheels were on the back in Ca., it is classified a motorcycle. My insurance company says it's a motorcycle.

Pick your poison. It seems that's what each state has done. :doorag:

hehe.. my DMV ( MD ) ... classified it as "other" ...

When I was recently pulled over for my license plate, the officer came back and asked, did you make this yourself? I looked at him with wonder in my eye's, and go ... nooooo. :) He said it was classified as other, and most times they are custom made vehicles..

I'd say "Other" is a lot more accurate than "Custom Made" since the Spyder is a production vehicle.

I think the DMV should just classify the Spyder as 'AWESOME'! :ohyea:

Before I bought mine and rode a Goldwing I always thought of the Can Am as a motorcycle.
After 2 months of riding it,still think of it as a motorcycle.

By law in most states and provinces, it is a motorcycle. To some people, it is a trike because it has three wheels. To an engineer, it is in a category by itself...call it an inverted trike, reverse trike, or tadpole trike, if you like. I don't consider it to be a motorcycle any more than I think of a top fuel dragster as an automobile...it is related, but different. I don't think of it as a "roadster", either, since to me that is an automobile with a soft top and window curtains. It's just my Spyder...also a misleading term since there are several autos with that moniker. Call it what you wish. The name isn't important...just the fun! :)

Well since the weight versus the road tax for the license plate. I would have to classify it as an RV. Same goes for the trailer I pull with it. $98.00 plus inspection sticker.:banghead:. So I guess if you dropped a Servi-Car or Frankienstien rearend under it, would it be an automobile:pray:. I want a new car!!

That's the way I think of it, too, as does my wife. We both call it "the bike", just as we've done with every other motorcycle I've owned. Ok, it doesn't have two wheels, and BRP doesn't call it a motorcycle, but it doesn't make any difference. Florida calls it a motorcycle and I call it a bike.

I've had many, many people come up to me and ask, "What kind of bike is that?", or say, "Cool looking bike!"

I'll continue to call it my bike. Other people can call it whatever they want.

Hmmm...should I call it a "byke?"

And as for those air bags, well I have known there to be one behind the driver from time to time.

OOPS, I didn't say that did I.
