Is the Comfort Seat upgrade worth it?

Comfort upgrade

I have had two comfort seats. 09/RS, 2014 RT-S. IMO, an upgrade from the OEM. Able to do 150 miles without problems, compared to 50 or so with the OEM.

I’m thinking of upgrading my 2017 RTL to heated Comfort Seat, I normally ride 2 up. How much room is left for the passenger?
I want to keep her Happy…

I have a comfort seat on my 2016 RTL and had to remove the backrest when the wife rides, she didn't have enough room and she is not a big girl, about 5'4" and 132. I would not have kept the bike without the extra room of the comfort seat, the stock was way too cramped. I don't mind not having the backrest when two up. Will use it when I'm solo.

My wife tried the s2s and thought the seat was great. So I'd like to put a call out to anyone that has upgraded there s2s to comfort that I would be interested in purchasing your old seat. Just pm me thanks.

I think changing the S2S seat out for a comfort seat would be a downgrade.

For me the comfort seat was well worth the purchase. We made 2 distance rides since purchase of my 21 RTL, 1 to Wilmington, NC with stock seat and 1 to St Augustine, FL (12 states 2900 miles) and the comfort seat made a huge difference for us. We had no trouble riding longer intervals and could comfortably ride from gas stop to gas stop without feeling like we had gotten our butts kicked. We had to stop more frequently with the stock seat. I don't know about recent models, but with my 2014, the main difference between stock and comfort seats is the added legroom of the comfort seat.

Hi, UtahPete. That's my main issue. I just don't have enough legroom on my 2018 RT-L, and the LaMonster highway pegs would be in an uncomfortable position for me. The Can-Am promo says that the Comfort Seat has more legroom for taller drivers, but no data were given. So, just how much more legroom do you get with the Comfort seat than the stock RT-L seat?

I had a 2020RTL with oem seat and thought it was ok until I got a 2022 F3L Limited which comes with the comfort seat as standard. Can tell the difference-pleasantly.

I think you'll find that the early (2007/8-2019) optional "Comfort Seats" are a little different to the OEM seats that're being called "Comfort Seats" on the 2020+ models.

The earlier model optional versions of the "Comfort Seats" gave the Rider an extra 2" of leg room by reducing the length of the 'rider's lumbar support hump' in the front of the Pillion rider's space more than anything else; while those OEM "Comfort Seats" on the 2020+ models actually involve a different density seat support/padding foam to the earlier versions rather than providing any 'more space for the Rider' per se...

So Tonypil, if you need more Rider space/better legroom on a pre 2020 model, then as mentioned earlier in this thread, the optional 'Comfort Seat' for those year/models will give you that, 2"/50mm more in fact, but it comes at the expense of the length of seat space between your Pillion Passenger's thighs. ;) If you want better/different padding on those early models but don't necessarily need more space/legroom, then talk to Motorcycle Dave, one of our Sponsors here, about affordably adding a gel pad under the cover of your existing seat; or if you want to spend a bit more, contact Ultimate Seats, also a Sponsor here, or one of the other a/mkt seat manufacturers/trimmers, about getting a custom seat made to suit your needs! There are links to our Sponsors on the Home Page &/or in the scrolling banners across the top of most pages. :ohyea:

Over to you!

I have the Comfort seat and my dad got the Comfort seat on his new Spyder. I ended up cutting mine up, adding the gel pad from Dave, added the heat pads, and put 2 layers of memory foam over everything. When installing the memory foam, after spraying the 3M, I actually sat on the seat for 30 minutes while it dried. It formed perfectly to my needs. A guy I know who makes professional drag strip seats told me to do that and wiggle a bit. As it glues, air pockets can form and the glue releases, forming the perfect fit (Only for the driver, not the passenger.) He stapled on the cover, it’s a perfect fit. My wife sat on both, as a passenger, OEM and Comfort seat, and could really tell the difference. She liked the Comfort. As for the difference between the pre 20 vs post 20, sitting on both Comfort seats, the post 20 is a touch wider, especially for the passenger, and much firmer. But that’s comparing the generations, so it's not apples to apples. Wife liked the Comfort seat, I got the Ultimate and heat by doing my own work - much cheaper. Best of both worlds! I agree with the statement that everyone is different. I’d get some seat time, add an Air Hawk first, then jump. I can say this tho, even though I have a perfectly fitting seat now, on trips I never let my butt or wife’s butt get used to the seat position. Every fuel stop we switch things up. I start with nothing, just seat. Next stop, I add the Air Hawks. Next stop, I remove the Air Hawk bladders and insert gel pads. Next stop, start all over. Changing up is our success pattern when touring and riding 8-10 hours every day for a period of days.
Where did you purchase your heated inserts?

I got it from Motorcycle Dave. He was a sponsor at one time I think. Not sure if he’s in business anymore. That was a while ago. His number was 209-887-3283.
I see he was last active here on Dec 30, 2024. Hope all is well...

I beg to differ. A lot of people say that the comfort seat is the same as the S2S seat other than the stitching. I have a 2020 RTL and switched it to the Heated Comfort Seat as soon as I got it. I have since sat on numerous Sea to Sky bikes , and to me, the S2S seat is hard as a rock compared to my comfort seat. I DO believe it is dimensionally the same as a S2S, but I don't think the foam is the same. Previously I owned a 2015 RTL and had switched it to the Heated Comfort Seat also. You won't get me to go back to the stock seat.
I bought a Comfort Seat for my 2020 base. It started out much firmer than my 2021 S2S seat. However, after ryding it several times, it has softened up well. I think the tightness of the new vinyl was the cause.
