Is the Carbon Black RT color difficult to maintain; & does it scratch easily?

Does anyone have a Carbon Black Spyder that could answer a few questions for me? At the present time I do not own a Spyder. However, recently, my wife and I were at a dealership, and she noticed a Carbon Black Limited, which caught her eye. With her showing some interest, I would like to hear some input on how difficult it is to maintain that color, and if it shows scratches easily. We have owned black vehicles in the past, but nothing similar to a carbon color. Any input would be appreciated before I would pull the trigger.

If it's Black, it's ALWAYS going to show dust/dirt readily and likely it'll show polish &/or swirl marks readily too!! :gaah:
And if you DON'T make the extra effort it takes just to keep it looking clean all the time, then even just LOOKING at it is gonna show up on the paintwork, let alone riding it anywhere!! :banghead:

Back in my youth, when I was young and foolish and wasted a LOT of time on things like cleaning & polishing cars/bikes/trucks, I owned a few black vehicles; and when it eventually dawned on me just HOW MUCH I was missing out on cos I was so busy keeping my black vehicles looking even just basically presentable let alone clean &/or polished (where aporopriate, but matt black is just as bad! ) I got rid of them and vowed NEVER AGAIN!! :lecturef_smilie:

But I guess if you're interested in that sorta thing &/or you want to spend your weekends cleaning/polishing a Spyder instead of actually RIDING it, then a Black Spyder could be a good way of achieving that. To each his own! :thumbup:

Carbon black isn’t really black. It’s more of flat gray.

I have carbon black on in the 23 RT Limited and love it. I had a 21 Goldwing in carbon black also. No problem keeping it up. Just use different methods. Cleaners and polish specifically for flat paint is what’s needed to clean. I’ve never noticed that scuffs or scratching are any worse than regular paint.

I just bought a new toy. A new 2023 Spyder RT limited Carbon Platinum. I hesitated for a long time about the color, but I succumbed. For those who have this color, is it difficult to maintain and keep in good condition? Is it more fragile to stone chips vs. glossy paint? I hope I'm not mistaken, it's so beautiful!

Is that what you have?
In the pictures it looks like the paint has a matte finish, instead of a glossy finish. Is your paint a matte finish?

If it is, there are care products made specifically for matte finish paints.
My 2024 Spyder has a matte white finish, and after some Googling I bought a bottle of wash and one of spray sealant made specifically for matte finishes by Meticulous Matte.

I bought them from chemicalguys.com, but another quick bit of Googling shows the Meticulous Matte products are available from a variety of places.

Yes Racoon, that's what I will get this coming Tuesday... I'm like a little 65-year-old boy who can't wait for Christmas, lol. Thanks for the reference to the chemicalguys, I found that is available in a store near me. I'm not familiar with that finish so I didn't want to put some stuff and ruin the look by adding something enhancing the shine, since shine is what we don't want!

Not to nit pick your color, and I am not sure of the official name of the color, just realize that CarboPlatin is a gnarly chemo drug most folks would like to forget what they went thru with it.

Glad to read that, my 23 RTL carbon black matte will be delivered Tuesday and the look of it is incredible, but like the other gentleman, I was worrying about the finish for the long term. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

The day after I picked-it up from the dealer, I took it to a Professional Car Detailer in Dartmouth NS and he applied some Revivify Self Healing coating for Satin/Matte paints. After 2 years the water still glides off. There are no chips or scratches. Most scratches self heal in the sun.
