• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Is it me???? Or..

Are Can Am Spyders safer than motorcycles? I can't find any accident data online for Spyders. I never hear of accidents involving Spyders. I know it happens, I would just like to see the statistics.

While the mishaps are fewer, there have definitely been some unfortunate 3 wheel crisis events.

Just stay safe and enjoy your ride. :riding:

haven't found any reasonable answers
seems the hard core two wheel riders say no, for a variety of unfounded reasons
did find a couple interesting articles
http://www.mylegalneeds.com/faqs/determining-the-safety-of-trikes-compared-to-motorcycles.cfm
http://www.michiganautolaw.com/blog/2017/05/15/motor-trike-safer-motorcycle/
and this story from the New York Times (you know it's unbiased)
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/14/us/trikes-three-wheeled-motorcycles-on-rise-as-riders-age.html

most of the commenting is on traditional trikes, not reverse, so the comparisons may not be equal.
I'm sure most of us here feel trikes are safer (reverse trikes, that is), I know I do. The ability to avoid obstacles is not as good as on a two wheeler but I accept that.
They are certainly safer at walking speeds or below.

Good question

I saw this the other night but couldn't find info on it. Quit a few pics of Spyders in the ditch etc.

Hope whomever it was is ok.

Motorcycle statistics are all grouped together. Since the 3-wheel version is just a niche in the market, you are not going to see separate listings.

:spyder2: accidents do happen and people are killed. We hear more about them on SL because it is a subject that we as a group are interested in.

If asked to name five--I fortunately, could not.

As Bob said, numbers can be adjusted to make anything plausible. You need to pay good attention to the source and what they are trying to show to see if it is on or not. Based on an anonymous source, this statement is 97.63801 % correct.

Why couldn't Pegasus have seen it the other night, Fatcycle? Or are you "assuming" he saw it on the news? He may have just seen a image as he was using the net.;)

My post refers back to post #6. Thanks Pete for the defense. I did see it in the post I referenced and that is the only place I saw it.

Got rear ended the first year I had my Spyder by a person looking at a text message. It is not that the Spyder isn't big enough to seen. We just have too many people texting and driving. Earlier this summer I was riding next to a guy driving a road construction pickup. Yeah, he was texting. And yes he got an ear full.

Wasn't referring to Pegasus, was referring to quote #6 also.

Sorry, yes I assumed that the person posting the pic in post #6 was saying he saw it, not on the web.

The reason I assumed that is the only place I have ever seen that pic on the web is right here on spyderlovers and all the details of what happened are listed in detail.

In fact Pete, if you look at my post I quoted post #6 and didn't refer to or mention Pegasus.

Are you assuming I was?

Smile, it's all good !

My bad. I was looking for something on Google and saw the crash image but not through a article, story headline or ??. I typically search then go to the images for a visual reference. Some have links to what the picture is about but this one may have not.

I like to include people's names in posts where possible to "avoid confusion":yikes:, so I was reading CMB's post #6, but the top of Pegasus' post #7 was also appearing, showing his name, and I used his name rather than CMB by mistake. Bit me on the bum ;) ....apologies for the confusion.

Thanks you CMB (or Pegasus).......( has anyone ever seen CMB and Pegasus in the same room?;)) ........ the defence rests:ohyea:

Crash date

As a motorcycle safety instructor , I get the data. Spyders are by far involved in fewer crashes. Two of the areas involved are curves and intersections. Since fewer Spyders crash in intersections , the numbers are lower. Curves are a no brainer; no sliding, so no crashing!!!
ride safe, look out for idiots, you will be ok!

Thank you

I feel a lot safer on the spyder than I ever did on my two wheeler. I feel like cars can see me better. I will never drop the spyder. I don't mind riding on loose gravel. I don't mind riding two up. My Spyder checks all the boxes for me. My only regret is that it didn't buy one sooner.
