• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Is it hand-gliding or hang-gliding?

I used to hang glide back when it was first introduced. The gliders back then had the glide ratio of a stone. But boy was it fun! It almost killed my brother when he stalled our kite at about 50' above the ground. He said he only wrecked his half of the kite. Since my half didn't fly at all without his half, I quit.

I can tell you this was an extremely scary ride for both of these guys. Not good at all. That is why they have a checklist before takeoff. Ignore it at your own risk!

Hi wyliec,

Re: swiss-mishap

It has happened before. A few years ago, in British Columbia, a woman fell to her death when she had not been strapped in.

Yup! Coming from MN, the black bears were a piece of cake. Get disturbed by them, bang on some pots or pans, and poof--they would run off. As much wilderness canoeing as we did, I never felt the necessity to carry a gun for protection.

Not a good idea in AK. The ones you are likely to encounter are similar to your picture. They look at you as lunch. And it happens all the time.

Heck, skydiving is starting to seem tame.
..........

What with all the equipment improvements & upgrades they've made over the years, it's all gotta be a helluva lot safer than it once was!! I remember when the 'official stats' for 'non-military parachuting' revealed that there were major limbs broken in 1 out of every 3 jumps made!! But they aren't anywhere near that now, yet there's a whooole lot more jumps happening on a daily basis & the number of people involved has increased exponentially!! I'm told that these days, it's not quite as safe as crossing the road, altho the risks aren't that much different.... but we all think nothing of crossing the road!

Don't forget: As we are all becoming "Less Young"; even napping in a chair starts to take on risks...

Like your kids walking by, and holding a mirror under your nose! :yikes:

They're not doing that for the wonderful view!
