• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Is Common Sense going the way of the Passenger Pigeon?

Yep, it is a rant. So often I read on the forum questions about why something is not operating correctly or how to do this or that, when if the person would take the time to go through the owner's manual and become familiar with the bike and how to operate the functions, that could take care of the issue. Perhaps common sense is not that common after all...

Can you provide an example without outing anyone? I consider myself of average intelligence, dare I say slightly higher regarding some things, but how something is presented, explained, or shown just doesn't register clearly in my mind. Take IKEA furniture for example. I take almost as long deciphering the instructions as I do building the thing itself. :dontknow:

Some people learn differently, maybe more hands-on than book-smart.

Bottom line, try to be patient because at some point everyone gets to literally be the "smartest person in the room" - at what they know best; and when you are stuck, it is nice to have them help rather than criticize or belittle you.

I find simply ignoring posts or threads the best solution if I can't say something nice. At least that's what I strive for.

Manuals? We don't need no steenkeeing Manuals. :roflblack:

Unfortunately, todays manuals seem to be written by those who do not know the language. Along with that, there is a lot of copy/paste going on and that usually has a lot of errors because certain things that were changed are missed.

Common sense on many things is the right answer. But it is also missing from a lot of people in today's society. :gaah:

Also, some people are looking for &/or only understand the experienced person's explanation who can translate/add additional details in layman’s terms. This helps them meet people with similar interests. *** not excusing here, just attempting to understand ***

is just not fast enough

Agree with reading the manual, BUT - BRP manuals definitely suffer from copy/paste isdues and have functions in them that do not apply to YOUR vehicle. The functions themselves suffer from poor descriptions too... So they can be confusing!

IMHO many long-timers on here are way better sources of info (I have used them myself) and can understand why people ask questions, tho' sometimes, they do that in awkward ways :)

Sometimes when people get on here, they are just testing the waters and want a second opinion! :dontknow: God knows I have done it a time or two. :2thumbs:

…..not limited to the Spyder, Baxter. Only a small percentage read their vehicle (any vehicle) owners manual any more, and then hop on a forum and ask questions. I wonder if it is because we have become too lazy to be bothered….. just ask someone else rather than do the work ourselves.:dontknow:
