There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Is a Warranty Really Needed.

I have bought a 2011 Spyder RT limited for my wife from an indivdual with 2,200 miles still in factory warranty and I was going to put an extended warranty on it and find out the original owner is the only one who can do that, what is with that. I checked with two can am dealers the only ones near me one in Olive Branch, Ms 75 miles and one in Memphis, 85 miles away and one said he could probably put an after market on it, not sure about that. My question is this do I really need it, how good or bad are these vehicles they seem pretty high tech and I have read lots of reviews some real good and some not so good. Thanks in advance.

You said it correctly. They are very high tech vehicles and can be pretty costly to repair. I normally don't recommend buying warranties, but it seems pretty smart, if your pretty unfamiliar with the machine or feel you may be in a pickle if something goes wrong. I don't know about adding the BRP warranty to the second owner. I was going to do that with mine, but what the original owner had was as good as BRPs best, so I kept that. If you can add one for a decent price, I'd say do it. It would be a good thing to have, if the machine still needs to have a few bugs worked out.

I'm not so sure you are getting the right information. If you have properly transferred the original warranty your name, and it is still in effect, I think you can purchase the BEST. I may be wrong, though. I'd check with a couple of our sponsors...like Bert's Mega Mall or Honda Toledo East. You can find the links on the SpyderLovers home page. These sponsors, and possibly others, offer some good deals on the BEST.

Your comfort levels

I did not purchase the extended warranty and don't feel uncomfortable. I have 13000 miles on my RTS and have taken the time to learn how to do most of the maintenance myself. This site has a wealth of information and the members are quick to give advice when you need it. I think the Spyder is a very well built and dependable machine. If you care for it, it will care for you.

I bought the longest available B.E.S.T. warranty for mine when it was new. I got it from Berts. My local dealer was pushing for an aftermarket warranty. I just knew that if I ended up with a lemon or some kind of catastrophic engine/transmission failure the repair cost would not be affordable. The 7 year extended warranty on the Suzuki Burgman expired last year and I never had single repair made to the bike. I would still get one for piece of mind.

The warranty issue is kind of the luck of the draw. There are good :ani29:,s and a few bad :spyder2:,s. There are good mechanics and a few bad mechanics. Where your :ani29: falls into that mix can make a difference of whether or not you should have the extended warranty.

Owned four :spyder2:'s so far and have not had any repair problems that required warranty work. Factory recalls excluded here.

That being said, extended warranties are a crap shoot. You gamble with whether or not you will need them. The warranty companies make big bucks because most of the time you will never need the warranty. When you need it though--then--you will wish you had it. You just need to determine up front whether or not you are going to spend the extra bucks, or take a chance on needing the extra warranty or not.

I do not buy extra warranties on anything. So far, I have been lucky. Now that the factory warranty has expired on my 2010 RTS, I will see what happens this riding season. :bbq::bbq:
