• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Is a spare tire carrier feasible on the F3?

Managed to get an extra pair of stock front wheels for the wingless griffon... I think with all the road trips I plan on taking (already put over 2500 miles on it) and some of the nasty pot holes that I've encountered, it would be nice to be able to carry a spare front wheel... perhaps in place of the left saddle bag? Any ideas on making a DIY carrier that is structurally sound, safe and not completely hideous looking? I saw a pic of an older Spyder with a folding wheelchair attached so I think there's potential to fit an extra wheel for certain extended trips out through the middle of nowhere. I would put it on top of a trailer, but we've already discussed F3 trailer hitches and it sounds like I won't be getting one too soon...

For sure..!!

The right fabricator or yourself could do it. They are heavy and aukward but then if you hit a pot hole big enough and hard enough to damage a rim or cut the tire I don't know that a fresh wheel alone will get you going. Most carry plug kits compressors and credit cards and cell phones. :dontknow: if you do make a carrier send along some photos. probably will only work on the left side...

SPARE TIRE WITH WHEEL

I have created, designed and fabricated many parts for a few different Spyders and I have no doubt what you are looking for is very doable. However " Chupaca " said it very well, with all the alternatives available ......WHY.....I could justify this if you doing the " DAKAR " thing, but otherwise ...as they say in New Jersey ....." FA GETTA BOUT IT ".......:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.....Mike

Ha ha, I am not typically one to overpack on trips or carry a bunch of extra junk... I go on week long trips overseas with nothing but a little backpack with some fresh clothes. But a spare tire is something I feel would be nice because I've seen (and barely avoided) some NAAASTY pot holes on my last trip! I'm not talking around town, I'm talking on trips where there's nothing for hundreds of miles (like a certain highway in Nevada) and no cell reception... (been there, done that). Urals carry them... I figure a Spyder could too! :)

Certainly possible with some time and imagination.

As a different concept but maybe somewhat similar results, have you considered to carry a tube and some repair material to repair a sliced tire to get you back to civilization. Not perfect but certainly smaller and simpler.

An alternative could be a good towing program such as AAA or whoever provides quality service in your area of travel.

I also could see it if you were doing the Dakar thing. And then...there is Murphy's Law to contend with. I am guessing if you need a tire, its going to be the rear one rather than the front.

The front comes off easy and can be replaced in minutes, the rear, not me. Time to call AAA or similar. :roflblack:
