Bone i undstand what u are getting at but people are saving anywhere between 1-2k, PLUS accessories/extended warranties even on the SE5 models. I don't consider that "little money". I wish i could just throw money around like that.
I pride myself on getting a good deal and i think it would make owning/riding a spyder that much more enjoyable. Especially if i will have the extra coin to put into it.
Not a question of throwing around money....of course you want to get a good deal...however, sometimes people labor over such a small amount that it's simply not worth it.
I don't think you'll find a $1-2k difference on your bike...there's a markup, but there's only so much of that left on a 2009 that is already reduced. Get the dealer to a price that you're comfortable with, and get the bike.
I enjoy the negotiating process but I only go so far. I like my dealership and want them to be around for a while. If I nailed them to the pole with everything I buy from them, and everyone else did the same, they wouldn't be there anymore. Look, we all like good deals...however, the dealership has to make some money to stay in business...I do not fault them for this and I look for 'fair' pricing.
For example, I bought my hard bags and comfort seat from my dealer when I had my service done there...they were also doing the second update. I didn't bludgeon them to death over the price...I got a very fair price. Well, as it turns out, they didn't have the plate necessary for the parking brake fix...instead of telling me I'd have to return (each way is 70 miles for me), they took one off of a demo and put it on my bike. Perhaps they extended themselves because I am a good customer who values the relationship as much as the cost factor...they didn't feel obliged to help me, but the quality relationship might have helped...if I beat them over the head to get everything cheaper than they pay (which is what people ask sometimes), they might not have extended themselves and I'd be out a functioning parking brake and have to take another day out of my life to go back to have it done in the future.
Bottom line for me: there's more to a deal than the price...long after you settle on a price, there's service...and that is more important than the price you pay for the bike...take a look around here and you'll see what I mean...
