Got my update finished last night--- really like it -- but the iTunes servers are way busy still--- so I did a direct download of iOS 5 and manually installed it. Really like the new OS !
You can do a direct download of iOS 5 here:
http://osxdaily.com/2011/10/12/ios-5-download-available/
Just select which version you require. AT&T users are GSM. Verizon is CDMA.
After the file is downloaded do the following:
1. Hook your phone or pad up to your computer.
2. Do a BACKUP of your phone or pad in iTunes - not just a regular snyc-- do a BACKUP.
3. For Windows – Hold the Shift key and then click on the "RESTORE" button.
Forhttp://techie-buzz.com/how-to/how-to-update-ios-4-3-itunes-manually.html# OS X – Hold the Option key and then click on the "RESTORE" button.
4. In the next dialog browse to the IPSW file that you downloaded select and select it.
5. iTunes will update your phone with iOS5 -- about 15-20 minutes to install.
6. iTunes will ask to RESTORE your phone using the BACKUP you previously did - allow this to happen. It will then copy over all your previous apps and data---- like a sync--- but you can use the phone while it sync's now--- cool!
If for some reason step 6 doesn't start a RESTORE automatically-- you can manually start a RESTORE from the BACKUP you previously made.
That's it
