• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Insurance?

Most insurance companies don't know what it is so they are clueless when it comes to classifying it...it's new...and unknown...for now...

Let's hope all the movie exposure doesn't make our Spyders too commonplace...

Dont insure the bike. I got liability insurance only and pay $400 annually. Figure the bike value drops $1000 yearly at least. If you pay that much to insure it, you're losing $2000 annually. Why bother? In a minor collision your deductible screws you. In a serious collision what you need is medical insurance you'll never ride again! That's how i size it up. If bike is destroyed, fuggedaboutit and go on.

There have been reports on this site and others about major collisions involving Spyders where the bike is totaled and the riders basically walked away. I recall one early one involving a deer that really destroyed the Spyder, but rider unhurt. Unlike a two wheeled motorcycle, the Spyder does provide a bit more stability in a crash. The price on parts for the Spyder convinced me that the $500 a year I pay Progressive for full coverage is worth it. I hope I never have one of those collisions that ends up with both me and the Spyder bent out of shape. If I do, you're right, medical insurance is more important. In addition to a BRPjunkie, I guess I'm an insurance junkie; medical, life, car, home, boat, PWC, motorcycle, long term care, BRP extended warranty. AAA, John Han****, Mass Mutual, Progressive, Hastings Mutual, etc. No Allstate, but I think I'm in good hands even though their hands are in my checkbook each month.

I have been exchanging emails with the fine<?> people at Progressive County Mutual Insurance Company and the last guy finally told me why their rates on the Spyder were so high (along with GEICO and others). He told me "Naturally premiums are higher on a Sport Bike than on a cruiser or touring bike." :cus: was my response to that.

Is the :spyder: really a Crotch Rocket?
When we insured our Spyder in March, it was so new to them that they didn't have it in their database for their agents. My agent had to call Progressive in California. At that time, they accepted BRP's classification that it was a Sport-Touring bike, and insured it accordingly. I understand that now they have reclassified it, although I have no confirmation. If they raise my rates through the roof at renewal, we will have to shop around. They have already lost all my vintage bikes due to their higher rates, and refusal to provide loss and damage coverage. I got full coverage from Haggarty for my entire collection, for a fraction of the cost of liability alone from Progressive for three vintage bikes. That is too bad, they had served me well for many years, otherwise.

I think thats why I'm more upset than mad at them. I've had Progessive since I got back in to riding in the mid '90s. I feel like I've been thrown under the bus and loyalty to them without ever having a claim of any kind means nothing at all. :(

Did you contact Marc at the web site I provided? I'd had Progressive for years but rates kept escalating even as my bikes aged. He did a great job for me and one of my cohorts and specializes in Spyders.

Thanks for the reminder. I totally forgot. :opps: I just visited the website and filled out the quote request form.

Foremost

I called my agent a little while ago. They're an independent agency and represent numerous companies - Progressive, Farmers, Foremost, Daryland, Travelers etc. They priced through every company they carried.

Foremost was by far the cheapest - $359.00 per year for full coverage:
$50k/$100k/$50k
Comp./Coll. $500 deductable
$3500 Accessory coverage
Roadside Assistance

This is less than 1/2 of the Progressive premium and even less than what I paid for the Goldwing.

The agent told me that if I cancel the Progressive policy within the next week that I'll get a $500+ refund since it was paid up through Sept.

:D:2excited: :thumbup: :doorag::2excited:

Dropped Progressive

Yesterday, after much shopping around with many different companies and agents I finally dropped Progressive ($779 per year for the 3 wheeled Sport Bike as classified by Progressive).

I finally decided to go with Dairyland for $311 per year for slightly better coverage than Progressive. Heck that's cheaper than a set of fog lights or sport rack or numerous other accessories. Plus I'm going to get a $519 refund from Progressive.

 I thought that dropping Progressive sounded like a no brainer when you mentioned it last week, especially with the $500 refund.

Wow, who did you go through for that price? I tried Haley's in the Woodlands (who Ive dealt with before) and got a higher quote than that if I remember right.
