• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Installing BajaRon's new Wires & Plugs on an RT....

Has anyone come up with video, pictures, and/or Tips to help in installing the RT plugs & wires?

Ron's instructions are helpful, but the big challenge is working on that front spark plug. I did some searches but didnt see anything.
Surely someone has done a video with many of these being sold now !

According to the service manual you are going to have to remove the Air Box to access the front spark plug and after you do that it is still going to be a pain. Good luck.

So does the lack of response and pictures mean that most people are having a dealer do the installs ?

Only those with savvy tech skills, a good amount of patience and a fairly high pain threshold should try changing out the front spark plug on the RT. It has certainly been done by a few board members, but I have yet to hear of anyone who said that this maintenance project should be tackled by the faint of heart. Personally, I admitted defeat after several hours of probing around and finally took mine to the dealership after they said they said they would only charge me 1/2 hour of labor to do the job. (it took them 1.5 hours :banghead:)

Now all this being said, if someone out there discovers a "secret passage" to the front spark plug:pray: I would love to see a copy of that map!

It's no big deal and can be done from the left side of the Spyder. I made a post about awhile ago but I can't find it either. What you do is reach over the top of the head on front and remove the plug from the left side. No need to even remove the right panels if you're just changing plugs.

If you are replacing the wires would you not have to remove the plastic on the right side as well as the air box?

Thanks for the heads up on this. I totally missed the post about changing the front spark plug so I went back and did a search and found the thread.

ow I know it can be done by mere mortals, so the next time.......,

Yeah.... sure.... right.... I've been at this for working on four hours now. I managed to get the front plug out (after tearing the boot apart of course), and believe it or not I did it from the right side without moving the airbox... HOWEVER.... I discovered the easiest way to have this done is to drive it down to your nearest dealer!!! I managed to get the new plug in, but the socket is stuck in the hole and I can't get it out. :banghead:

I hope the ST is easier to change? The RT sounds like a Nightmare to maintain?:dontknow:

That's exactly what I did. Took pains to replace the looming as well so to protect the new wires.I have pics of the tools I made and will post when I get back to my home computer
No, wait, they are right here. What I do need is a picture of my Northern Tool deep well, and I mean deep sparkplug socket. I will post that later. Be patient and take your time, the new wires must be lubed with the provided grease in order to make for a smooth installation.

Only if you don't pay attention to what others have gone through before you. There is an RS in my future and I anticipate much easier wrenching on that machine based on lessons learned on the RTS.

I much prefer working on mine than the hubby's, of course I have over 4 1/2 years worth of experience on mine. Once Geoff got home I let him finish working on the RT and putting it back together. Now it's 9:30pm (I started at 9:30am) and it's time for dinner.... YIPPIE!!

Tomorrow I am taking it to the dealer to replace the rear tire.... $160 to do the work sounded like music to my ears (and I get to get a two hour ride in).
