installed scala q2 in new helmets last night and must say they work great ... me and dee went out for a short ride last night to try them out and they work awesome ... on the way home i pared with IPHONE my kid called me from florida and it still worked nice ... noticed on highway i had to have her speak up a bit (wind noise on my end ) but even with that i like them ... did have to buy 2 new helmets 3/4 hjc with inside drop down goggles ... the microphone wouldnt fit in my full face .... but didnt care the cost was well worth it installation was easy and battery life seems cool.... i charged them a week ago while waiting for new helmets.... and they still lasted a good hour and that wasnt on full charge ... scala claims they will last 8 hours on full charge ...
but all and all i have to give the SCALA Q2 :2thumbs:

I just got the HJC IS-16 and the mike fits, but barely...the scala rider 2 is a great product...works really well with my zumo 550 and iphone...however, the newest zumo software does NOT work well with the iphone...had to back that out and go with the older version.

As far as the scala goes, I agree that it's great...IMHO, it's one of those musts if you want music, GPS, and phone capability...

:agree: I purchased the multi-set a couple of weeks ago and found the overall performance to be great. (i.e. - ease of use, phone pairing (iphone), battery life (300 mile ride with my wife is like like having an on-board narrator:D))
In fact, when my son called me, he had no idea we were riding!

BajaRon want's me to get something like this for our trip out west but I don't see why I would want to talk to him any more than I have to now. :D

I for sure don't want to talk on the phone while I'm driving down the road, I hate phones and emails...hate emails more but if I'm hooked up to anything it will be my XM. :doorag:

This is the one good thing about the Chatterbox XBI. The Mic is attached the same way as the speakers. As a cord instead of a movable rod.

had the chatterbox i had problems with them and they were very expensive ...
sent them back and distributor told me that they had a lot of problems with them also and gave me full refund ... also the box for helmet was huge in comp. with scala..but if they work for you ...cool:2thumbs:

must admit ear buds are better for music ...but scala isnt bad over all

On the Scala Rider Q2, I also have very limited space in my full-face helmet, so I called the manufacturer and was told they are working on a thinner microphone, but no ETA has been set. You can remove the windscreen foam to get some space back inside the helmet, but then the person on the other end WILL hear more wind noise from you mic. So I ryde with the foam up against my mouth/moustache/beard.

:roflblack: I use my strictly for my IPOD. Unless i'm on call with work in wich case the phone is paired and i answer it as i'm pulling off the road. (Safe spot of course) I think if i had the Zumo 550 instead of the 450 i might pair it with the unit as well just for the convience of voice directions.

:agree: Agreed. Phone is on strictly for 'emergency' (always on-call for aging parents:pray:).
Driver to passenger communication is the main reason I bought mine. Not yet sure about a GPS. Usually print abbreviated directions when traveling through seldom-traveled areas for tank bag cover.

i guess i should forget about the DVD player then ,,,,:joke:

zzneonzz, what kind of helmet do you have? I have a scorpion EXO-1000 and can't see how I would install the clip for the XBi. This is the unit I want not sure it will fit my helmet.

Thanks for your help.

I have the Q2 as well and think it works great.

I have been trying to get the iphone to work with it but not much luck. The iphone does not have voice dialing so out going calls is not functional. Incoming calls work so thats not a problem.

The real disappointment is not with Q2 but that I cant get the iphone to play music through the Q2. Anybody know how? The trick with activating voicemail while playing music does not work.

How do people listen to music through their Q2?

The Q2 is not the problem. I do not believe the iphone can 'stream' it's music output via bluetooth. You would have to use the MP3 cable supplied with the Q2 and use the headphone jack on the iphone and plug into the MP3 receptacle on the back of the Q2 base.
Not sure how confused things would get if you used a bluetooth 'dongle' on the headphone output of the iphone while leaving the phone paired.

I am also not aware if the iphone supports voice dialing.

I have the scorpion EXO - 700

I had to remove the padding on the left side install the clip and then reinstall the padding. I've had it installed on 2 different EXO 700's with no problems installing it this way.

For the mic you might have to remove the chin guard to mount the mic. Thats the only difference on the Shell i believe between the stock 700 and 1000.

There are a few voice dial apps for the iphone. Just type in voice dial in the app store.

This is correct. The IPHone won't stream via bluetooth without messing around with it. I have heard people have been successfull at getting it to play if they placed a call and then started the MP3's and had the other person end the call to allow it to play the bluetooth. (I think) i would have to see if i can find the forums that had the post on how to do this though.

Here is the blog post that shows how it was done. Looks like it was through the VM option.
