• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Insertinig Pictures

I'm having a problem inserting pictures into a thread. Each time I insert a picture it appears sideways. How can prevent this from happening? Thanks

Alot of people seem to have this trouble. It's not the forum. I think it's whether you take the picture in landscape or portrait on your phone. Many smartphone will allow you to edit/rotate the picture with nothing else needed. But... when you look at the picture in a photo viewer does it look right or is it also sideways (guessing sideways). It should upload the same as it looks in a photo viewer. Most viewers/editors have a simple Rotate 90 degrees function so rotate it so it looks right then upload and it should be fine. Hope that makes sense...

:agree: It's just a matter of figuring out which end is going to be the "up" one, and adjusting things accordingly.

Okay that worked but now I insert the pictures horizontal (which I want) across the thread but when I preview, they are vertical and very large.

It dont really matter fyi iv done lock screen rotation & all other tricks no luck. The preview will sometimes look ok then flip as it becomes a post. Just makes for good comments & does hlp not over loading the servers memory. Grin & bear it just keep pics clean:)

I wasn't there but I still care! POW /MIA VETS

The forum shouldn't rotate them but it could rearrange in the post, like even if you see 3 side by side, they may go top to bottom. That really shouldn't matter as long as people don't have to turn their head sideways or upside down to look at pic. Your screen resolution may also impact how it is viewed in the post.

:agree: It's not that difficult. Before I upload any picture, I run it though a picture editor, either a free one on my tablet, or if I'm working on my laptop, I use Photoshop Elements or MS Office Picture Manager, etc. Most Android and Apple devices (phones or tablets) come with free free picture editors today as part of the OS. Or you can download free editors from Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

For Windows 8 or later, there are free apps in the MS App Store - or plenty of free ones you can download online for any version of Windows or Mac. (Disclaimer: When downloading apps from the internet, ignore the ads on most download sites for software you do NOT want, and run your downloaded application through your Antivirus software before you install it.) Paint.NET is a very powerful free photo editor for Windows 7 and above. I just downloaded it and tried it out with Windows 10.

All you really need, however, is a photo editor that does 4 basic things, which almost all of them do.... Crop, rotate, re-size, and enhance. (Paint.NET does a lot more.)

Once you've got a photo editor that you like, take these basic steps before uploading a picture to the forum....

  1. Rotate it to the proper orientation, if necessary.
  2. Crop it to what you want to upload, if necessary.
  3. Resize it down to a size that is appropriate for a forum message (usually no wider or taller than about 600 pixels).
  4. (Optional) Enhance the picture with an auto-enhance or auto-level tool, which will adjust it to optimum brightness, color tone, etc.
  5. Save the finished product with a new name ("Save-as") and upload it into your forum post using the "Picture" icon in the forum software.

No matter if you are using a phone, a tablet, a laptop, or a desktop computer, the basic steps above are the same.
All this may sound a little complicated to some at first, but just like riding a Spyder, it's really easy and fun once you've tried it a few times.

As the last poster indicated one thing that is critical image size. Orientation, while important will still turn the wrong way if it is too large an image for the web page. I had several pics I was uploading awhile back and even though they were portrait they still showed sideways. I found out reducing image size they came in correctly.

I changed the size of my pictures to 320x320 and everything worked out fine.
