• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Inexpensive Video Cam

Now, before you all jump all over me, I understand this is a cheap asian camera, that the ads for it on Ebay are suspicious, etc.

But I was wondering if anyone has tried this video cam?

Here is a review: http://www.gizmag.com/md80-micro-video-camera-helmet-cam-cheap/13877/

Assuming they used it to make the helmet cam video, it's impressive for that price. Functionally, it's almost a throwaway.

Just wondering. None of you, by the way, is more cautious about buying such stuff -- especially on Ebay -- than I am.

Well, I guess it is cheap enough that you don't have much to lose by trying it. And if it is a good camera, you got a great deal.

:agree:But, don't forget the side of the road you should be on.

I have a gopro; but, I may buy one of these. I might even attach to our yorkie and get a yorkie's eye view of things.

Stay away from these guys nojoke

I ordered two of these for Christmas over a month ago. All it is is a scam site that will call you every week to tell you they signed you up for this program or that program and you can cancel at anytime but they want all your credit card info again so they can sign you up and if you don't give it to them they say call back when you have it. They even call my cell on Saturdays.
They have no plans of shipping me the cameras I ordered.

I'm so mad about this scam I could spit bullets. :gaah:

Well perhaps that and a few other things? Kinda like that dude that almost ran you off the road at Bike Week in Daytona? :yikes:

I have taken hundreds of hours of video with helmet cams and with a number of different makes, but have been using a HD Contour Helmet Cam for a year now, off road and on and you can't get any better video than with this small camera. With a 4g micro chip you get 2 hours of HD and I mean HD. 8 hours on a normal setting.

When I get old(er) and want to sit around and watch the memories I make, I will want to watch them on a big screen TV, in HD.

For around $300 Dollars you can't go wrong. It is small enough and rugged enough to carry in your pocket when you are off the bike and making memory's on your trip, indoors or out.

"One tip", the only way to take video on a moving Bike is with the camera attached to your helmet, as your head is a shock absorber and will keep the video smooth. Any where else does not work!!!

You can check them out at and see some of the posted video, http://contour.com/camera/contour_hd

If anyone is interested I can post a picture of how I mount camera's to my helmet, very secure and easy to remove when not in use.

I like the in-helmet mount on the side (later in the video)

I first saw the MD80's when they were around $50-60 and considered it then. But I just saw this on ebay

$12.30 shipped? I can't think of any reason not to give it a shot.

If you want to make Low Def video you can post fine, go cheap, but the worst thing you can do is take the video or picture of your life time and find it, poor quality. I once took a picture with an older digital camera with three Dolphins within inches of our boat going 25 knots and to this day I wish I had one of today's HD Camera's. Don't waste you money on cheap hardware.

When a part for a Spyder cost several hundred dollars to make it look cool, you quickly forget it is installed, why not get great Video you can watch forever or at least your ancestors can. Enough said.

:agree:Buy cheap, get cheap.

I have an MD-80 camera, cost me $30, here's a sample of the results:

Note - you can't remove the timecode (except in post-production).
Bonus points if you can ID the music!

Wyliec - The music is not from South Pacific, but it is from a movie musical made in the 1950's, so you're on the right track!

Desert Spyder - Gherkin's mother (my wife) does love her green scaly dinosaur decendent Gherkin (some days more than me!!)

Contour/GOPRO

I use the contour overseas on my deployments, im sure you can just imagine what i have done to this camera, it has held up very well and the videos are great. There is another camera we use http://www.goprocamera.com/ this camera seems more durable and waterproof than any other we have used, hope this helps and goodluck camera hunting

Picked up an MDed, Cisco FlipHD at BJs for $34.90. Will see what shakes. Now I gotta find a RAM mount for the RT, or suction cup :yikes:. Or duct tape to helmet.:D

MDed (manufacturer discontinued)

I bought one - see: camera for the rest of us thread... Works sweet. have used it on both the RT & my trike (YouTube "Tualatin Trails". Takes better video than my Sony video camera.

Mount is a Velcro strip on my mirror (Spyder). Total was under $40 delivered.
