• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I just wanted to share with all you SpyderLovers a new safety "farkle" that I had installed recently. I consider this an absolute necessity to have on my Spyder, as it really saved my hide the other day from a vehicle that was about to turn left out in front of me at an intersection. In one short week, I find it has already become a habit to flip the switch through any busy intersection and watch how vehicles quickly react to it. I truly believe it makes my Spyder much more visible, and therefore, makes me safer overall from being just a statistic. Let's face it, when it comes to motorcycles, there is no such thing as a "fender bender". We get just one strike! So please let me know what you all think of my new "Lightning Strike"! :bowdown:

that is impressive and no doubt makes you more visible. More info as to where and how much would help...:thumbup: Be safe...
 
Lighting strike

I like it and it sure is visible. What I don't know is it legal on motorcycles in all states or only on commercial vehicles when used as warning lights. Just wondering.

Don't shoot the messenger, but I hate to burst your bubble, you're asking to be pulled over.

Flashing lights are prohibited on vehicles except as a means of indicating a right or left turn, to change lanes, or to indicate that the vehicle is lawfully stopped or disabled upon the highway.

No worries, thanks for feedback! I thought the same exact thing so I did a lot of research before buying them. Fortunately for me, I live in Arizona and it is apparently legal here per Arizona State Statue 28-947. I've actually ran across a few Police Officer's that thought that the lights were pretty cool and a smart thing to have. I'm sure it's possible that someday I will run across an Officer that might not be up to the code and pull me over, but I have printed out the Statue and keep it handy with me on my Spyder just in case :thumbup: It's a chance that I have to take for my safety and my life, I guess!:lecturef_smilie: Incidentally, I don't keep them on continuously. Basically for just a few seconds when I feel I'm in a situation where another driver could be "stupid" or just not paying attention.

I guess if anybody wanted the same safety measure and lived in a different State than Arizona, they would need to research their local Statue's such as KAPike did.

Thanks, I purchased them (and had them installed) from a local Company out here in the Phoenix, AZ area called Lightning Strike. They were a vendor at one of the local "Bike" events that I attended called "Biketoberfest" in Cave Creek, AZ a few weeks ago. They had a vendor booth and a demo that really caught my eye. I usually wander by most of the booth's as I don't like "sales pitches", but this one stood out and I'm so glad I stopped to inquire. It turned out to be the "inventor" himself there and he was a really nice guy. He actually offered to do the install himself for me a week later, but I watched and it was actually rather easy. I have some installation photos if you are interested, just PM me if you want me to email them to you.

Good luck. I highly recommend them. At night you wouldn't believe how visible (and cool to say the least) they are. In fact, not knowing it was a Spyder, you would have absolutely no idea what the vehicle was coming towards you. Almost looks like from a different planet.
 
Probably illegal here, looks like a "slow moving vehicle" signal, or undecided which way you want to turn.

But I would also strongly suggest a bit of research...

I don't think that section D offers the protection under that law you're looking for. I would think an officer would be within his rights to write you a ticket and then when you contest the ticket in court let the prosecutor and your attorney lay out their opinions and have the judge decide from there. Intersections aren't a problem, I EXPECT trouble there and am ready for it... it's the oncoming driver who suddenly turns left immediately in front of you on a divided freeway that's trouble and you cannot predict those (it's happened to me twice now; I T-boned the other driver with my truck the 1st time a decade ago, but managed to emergency stop the Spyder I was on this summer the 2nd time it happened to me!).

Further I'm pretty sure in most US states those lights won't be highway legal you'll get pulled over for flashing them routinely for no apparent reason. You could also cause an accident with them by startling other drivers at intersections... Spyder fog lights would be a better safety investment, hooked up to activate with the main headlights (I assume there is a way to do that, I don't know yet). I also want to replace all the passive reflective markers with active LED markers as soon as I can on my RS, it just makes sense! :ani29:

Visibility is great, but I am thinking they look a lot like emergency vehicle lights and may cause you to be pulled over.
 
A lot of legal issues here in my opinion.
Different colored lights in different states mean different things.
I think it was on here. In KY ? Forrest Rangers use green lights and have "stopping authority". In Ohio, they have started using green/yellow flashing lights on plow trucks and some highway vehicles.
Red and or Blue usually mean Police, but is some states volenteer fireman have blue lights. Other state they have red.
Yellow flashing on tow trucks/rollbacks on the highway.
Some ( or all ?) if a commerical vehicle is going less then mimimum speed on a multi lane ( like on a hil). four ways must be on.
I think it might be confusing for the alernating flasher sides to be confused for turn signals. Smebody turn in front of you and ???. You might be charged.
Written LEO advice sure be nice, if you can get it..

How if there was a kit that modulated some auxilary lights, that might be OK?
I found that a headlight modulator will not work on my 2010 RT because of they way it's wired.
