There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Increased deaths in TN

deaths in TN.

I totally agree with all the cell phone committs, that say its dangererous to be around those useing then on the highway.:spyder2:

better

as i read this thread i see "the bikes are bigger and faster " as a reason for the deaths todays motocycles may be bigger and faster but theyre also light years ahead in braking/handling/saftey features .In my humble opinion a lot of problems are caused by inexperience and a lack of training and if you live in a small country town like me there are no training facilities within 450 miles so youre snookered .
ride safe mick :doorag:

I'm in upstate south carolina, not far from Tenn. I am seeing more overall "motorcycle" trauma in the ERs that we serve than I remember last year. HOWEVER, the biggest increase here is definitely from scooters. They are everywhere. scooter riders don't seem to have much safety training (just my observation). Are the stats separating motorcycles and scooters? if not, i would expect an increase n the numbers

I don't know but I expect that motorcycle fatalities have gone up simply because more people are riding. It would be interesting to see fatalities per year compared to registered motorcycles over a number of years. That said, cell phone use by drivers is the scariest thing I have witnessed since I got a driver's license in 1952. The Texas Legislature passed a ban on texting while driving last year but the Governor vetoed it. He won't get my vote in the next election. Personally, I'd like to see any cell phone use, even hands free, banned while driving. And no, I don't know how it would be enforced but we need to do something about distracted driving.

I get regular phone calls from MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, requesting donations and I have donated to them in the past. But recently I've begun telling them to call me back when they start a campaign against cell phone use while driving because I believe cell phone use is currently the bigger danger. At least that's so in Texas where the MADD campaigns have led to increasingly severe penalties for drinking while driving.

A large percentage of the fatalities I read about in the newspaper are younger riders with little experience. But then, all of us started with no experience so what makes the difference? Wish I knew.

Cotton, I'm glad to see that you included "even hands free" use. There are a lotta people out there that can't walk and chew gum at the sametime.

:agree: :gaah:
It's almost a shame that an IQ test isn't part of the licensing process!

Bob, I had a friend who suggested that brains should be weighed as a part of the licensing process. ;) He also suggested that the law should require that a person be conscious while driving.

Chris, I know from my own experience that even being worried over something such as a family problem or some work related matter can make me a less aware driver even though my hands, feet, and eyes are totally dedicated to driving. Talking on a phone, even hands free, can only make that worse. Quite honestly, I doubt we could ever pass a law against hands free cell phone use. I don't know how it could be enforced unless it was done something like Texas' open container law for alcohol. I'd still like to see it.

On a related note - after posting my opinions about distracted driving last night, I received a phone call this morning from a MADD representative who assured me that MADD is currently working to educate people about distracted driving and working to pass laws against cell phone use and especially texting while driving. Does MADD monitor Spyderlovers? I hope so. The representative I talked to even told me about a young neighbor girl who was killed when she pulled out in front of an 18 wheeler while texting. I agreed to pledge a small donation if they would send me some literature explaining exactly what they were doing in regard to distracted driving. I hope they are coming around. They are a very effective organization, at least in Texas.
