• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I'm so confused...

Hi all,
Wife and I currently have a 2006 goldwing, Looking into getting a RT-S.
I'm confused as to what all we would have to buy so we can have intercom, radio, and i-pod into helmet headsets like we currently have now. Thanks
John

John:

I have a Gold Wing GL 1800 and my wife has a Spyder RT. If you decide to keep your Wing so you both ride and talk bike to bike, you can't go wrong with the Cardo Scala Rider G4 Powerset. Even if you just use it as an intercom it will still be cheaper than adding on the communication stuff from Can Am for the Spyder.

Our Scala headsets are self contained with no wires (other than the speaker wires in the helmets). The rechargeable batteries have 8 hour life and run Bluetooth for our I phones, MP 3 players, Garmin GPS and intercom.

The priority tree is 1. Mobile phone or GPS instructions 2. Intercom. 3. A2DP audio source 4. FM radio (Built in) 5. Aux input for stuff like MP 3 devices.

The entire deal cost us just about $400 and it was well spent

The range is 1.6 KM (about a mile) and they are easy to operate. They also have automatic sound levels to modulate outside wind and engine noise.

I'm confused (WEG). Are you talking about duplicating your existing system on the4 RT ?

If so, I've been happy with the Spyder OEM system. The RT-S comes with the audio and Ipod system already. This plays through the 4 speaker set. You need to get the CB/Intercom system. Installed it's somewhere around $1200. In addition, of course you need the helmet headsets. If you currently own J&M headsets, you can use those, but you will need to purchase new lower cords to connect the J&M to the BRP system.

There are a number of aftermarket solutions. I won't address those, since you did not ask. For the BRP intercom system and helmet communications, you need an RT with standard or optional audio system, the CB/Comm system P/N 219400145, the Entertainment Harness P/N 219400201, and compatible helmets or headsets. The BRP Hybrid Helmet with built-in comm system is P/N 4474370##, and the Communication Headset alone is P/N 447438090. You would need two of each. An optional Push to Talk cable for the passenger is 447476090.

Hmm, the LAST thing I want to do is communicate with a passenger or another bike while I'm riding….. they make cages for that kind of stuff.. :dontknow:

Well if your current bike is going on 5 years and you got the helmets for them, then I think it is about time to update with a new set. Just so happens
that the BRP helmets are extremely comfortable and offer many variations with the interchangeable jaws. These jaws also cut down on wind noise.

They make the helmets in several colors to match the bikes. The extra parts you need to do everything have been
listed above. by NancysToy. If the Helmet does not fit you can still get the headset separately

The passenger can adjust there own volume independent of yours, and can also change the channels to the
radio or ipod. If your going to do allot of riding in the middle of nowhere, I find the XM radio to be the ticket:thumbup:

You can also keep your current helmets and listen music or ipod by just doing this. We had to until the helmets came out later.

I added these and it makes it much easier to fasten

I also added kewlmetal helmet locks to the handle bars for when we run in the store.

I would suggest first of all, to make a list of exactly what all you want. CB was not in your list. Do you want that ? Who do you want to operate what on their own. Then talk to Spyer dealer and to aftermarket dealers. I made the mistake of buying a "barebones RT" because I did not want the radio, only a CB which I bought at the same time. When they went to istall the CB, it was discorvered the entire audio package was required. A whole lot more money to buy and more to install.
Then ask on here, if anyone else had tried your solution. I still have not found a CB only for the RT. :dontknow:
Good luck and enoy the ride.

My group rides hit 4 MAX, and stopping every 100 miles or so is enough - but that's just me. I don't like city living either….. spyders seem to thrive in the country.. :roflblack:
