Welcome. You are going to love it. Even after have ridden 2 wheeled motorcycles for decades, I still prefer the Spyder.
As far as breaking it in, don't beat on it, but don't baby it too much either. I once bought an older but well kept Suzuki from my neighbor, an older gentleman. He was the original owner and maintained it well. The first time I took it over 90 mph on the highway, I blew some rings. The next time I saw him, I asked him if he ever had it over 70 MPH, he said no. I must have pushed the pistons into a longer travel than they ever went, and there must have been a ridge in the cylinder walls. I never took the engine apart to verify that. But, I broke in the Spyder riding it as I plan to ride it after the break in period. Not red lining it, but not babying it either. But surely taking it through it's paces and enjoying the acceleration!
Just make sure you watch the miliage and do you maintenance at 600 miles. Short trips with time to cool down would be preferable, but if you do highway driving most, do what bone crusher did and vary the RPM's. Seeing as how you will be breaking it in in cooler weather, it will cool down quicker and be ready to ride again as soon as you are out of the coffee shop.
Good luck and enjoy.
