• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I'm having second thoughts!

I pick up my 2014 RT Spyder tomorrow and I have been doing a lot of reading on the forum. I have read some great stuff that has increased my knowledge of the Sypder but unfortunately I have read about quite a lot of problems that seem to go along with it as well such as:

bad batch of front tires on the 2014's causing vibration at or around 60 mph
ome tires not lasting more than 5000 miles
excessive roll characteristics that some owners are experiencing with the need to upgrade shock package and sway bar
cracking of windshield bracket
overload of Nanny if putting slight pressure on the brake (riding the brake) resulting in shutdown
etc, etc

This amazes me that the Can Am is not taking a more aggressive approach in dealing with these issues. I am looking forward to making mods to the bike but having to make changes almost immediately to correct flaws in order to have a safe ride is giving me second thoughts about the purchase.

Is 2014 a bad year for Spyders??? HELP

I would take a deep breath and relax.
Most often you will hear from someone with an issue but not to much from the people that are too busy out riding and having a Great time with their Spyder.
I haven't had any of the problems you have listed, in fact except for replacing the rear OEM tire my Spyder has gone passed my wildest expectations!
You have a much better chance of picking up one like mine then anything else!

Enjoy and let us know how you Love it!!!

What are you getting? :dontknow:
If it's a 2014 RT; the only thing that'll go wrong, is if you run out of excuses to get on it and ride!

bad batch of front tires on the 2014's causing vibration at or around 60 mph Biggest problem with tires is finding 'round' ones. If you were to go through a dealer inventory of any tire brand you will find some that require more correction to roll true in some than in others. It happens with any vehicle and you'll see posts on many boards about this issue.
ome tires not lasting more than 5000 miles that is entirely due to the rider. I got 10,000 out of one rear and have 13,000 on the current one with lots of tread left. If I wanted to I could have smoked it down to 5,000 but I choose not to ride that way.
excessive roll characteristics that some owners are experiencing with the need to upgrade shock package and sway bar Again depends on the rider. If you plan to be aggressive then add the stronger sway bar and shocks. The factory stuff is fine for regular riding
cracking of windshield bracket numerous posts on here about not letting the weight rest on the bottom bracket. Just move it up a tiny bit but this could also be dependent on the types of roads traveled. On our 2nd set of RT's and have not seen this problem.
overload of Nanny if putting slight pressure on the brake (riding the brake) resulting in shutdown Again, depends on the rider. Riding the brake leads to trouble on any vehicle. Don't blame Can Am for this.
etc, etc

Is 2014 a bad year for Spyders??? HELP

The only thing Can Am might want to do is sponsor training classes for new owners.

buy one you will like it!

I'm one of those guys that find something wrong with everything l own. I have posted some complaint's myself on forum, but that being said l love rideing my 014 RTs. With 2800 miles and no mechanical issues so far. Plan on some options in future but don't really need them. I just love the comfort of bike and the 1330 engine. Been on this bike more than any other bike I've owned in the last 50 years.

You made the right decision

Hey hyperdrive - I am not big on posting and mostly just read what others have to say, but I have agree with the other members...you have made a great decision! I just traded in my 2011 RTS SM5 for a 2014 and WOW what a great bike! This is my 3rd Spyder and I have enjoyed every mile...doesn't mean I haven't had some small issues, but no more than I had with my Highlander or my RV. The 2014 RTL just purrrrrs and is even more comfortable and fun to drive than my 2011, which I loved! You will have a blast, and once bitten, you will find it hard to go back:spyder2:. Enjoy your new ride and all of the head turning you will cause:doorag:!

If you had never gone on this forum and just picked up your 14 RT you would be putting on lots of miles with a big smile on your face. That's the good and the bad about forums - you read about problems that maybe 1% of the owners are having and think what did I get myself into and forget that 99% are having no issues.
i have close to 11,500 miles on my 14 with only having to replace my rear tire. All the other things I have added were for my own pleasure, and not because I had to.

:congrats: On your new Spyder and  To many miles of smiles.

Well, I picked up the bike today and had a 100+ ride home to start getting use to my spider. Had a great trip home and she purred like a kitten. Thanks for the positive comments and the support. Can't wait for my next ride.

Is 2014 a bad year for Spyders??? HELP

I bought my 2014 RTL last September. Since then I have smiled for over 3500 miles. I installed a Bajaron swaybar and links, on the advice of a friend and club member, with absolutely no regrets. Today I installed a pair of Rivco highway pegs. I plan to install a comfort seat because I have long legs (36' inseam) and a bad knee so I am looking for a bit more legs room. Other than that, I have been very happy with my Spyder. I think the only thing that would my Spyder better, would be a better rider ;).
