• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ok call me a little obsessive compulsive but every since i heard about this bike i've been checking out every bit of information I can find. I even downloaded the Owners manual. I come to this site to read the posts on this forum almost everyday so I decided to go ahead and join. This is the sad part... im actually deployed right now so there is no possible way I can buy one anytime soon!!! :( But I will as soon as I get back to the States.
Ive never even riden a motorcycle (or driven anything with a manual transmission) before and I was planning on getting a Gixer when i got back (still may) but i figured the Spyder would be a lot safer for a first timer. Just wanted to say HEY to everyone here (I feel like i know you all since I read your posts all the time). I just have a few questions that I hope someone can help me out with.

1) Are there currently any dealerships and reputable repair shops (hopefully i wont need one) near Ft Stewart GA
2) Could anyone rate how well they think the windshields they own work in comparison to speed (not distance) since i would like to be able to keep up with a few motorcycles.
3)Have the financing options and insurance prices been a huge setback to purchasing the trike? Will Geico even know what it is when i call to get a quote? Does its safety features make it less expensive to insure than a normal motorcycle?

Well thats all the questions i have for now! Thanks for any answers I get in advance. Happy Riding!!

Hello ARMYGURL,
First thanks so much for your service....I did my financing through my credit union and got 6% interest. The dealership wanted 7.75%. I got it insured through foremost insurance. They had the best rate and it was about $600 a year. It included more options then the others as well like leather protection and towing. I hope that helps.

Hey ArmyGurl:
I too thank you for your service; I was deployed from 2006-2007. What a great "welcome home" gift to self a Spyder would be. I have very limited experience driving motorcycles and have an SE5 on order. Hopefully it will be in soon. You are more than welcome to come on over to Birmingham, AL to check it out before you drop that kind of $. As a soldier, all my financing and insurance is through USAA. They've always had the best rates on everything. I'll check out the motorcycle insurance and get back to you.

It's great to have you on our board along with all the new members.welcome

I can't answer all your questions but the stock shield should be fine for keeping up with any of the bikes you plan to ride with. I think the Spyder is a perfect choice for a first "bike" but you better get use to being an instant Rockstar. ;)

To echo everyone so far, THANK YOU so much for your service. welcome to our forum and our SpyderLovers family. I can not answer your question about a dealership as I am in Michigan. As far as the windshield goes, I think whatever you choose and like will still be fine. I have the EVO III from Marcel and have had my Spyder up to 109 mph with no trouble and plenty of throttle left. It cuts way down on wind noise and for the long haul I like not having had to fight the wind on my upper torso all day long. Some like Lamont prefer very little windshield. Some like the looks or dislike the looks of the various aftermarket shields. I would say go with what you like and how you feel once you start riding.

Insurance varies from state to state. In Michigan Gieco will not insure the spyder but others have gotten great rates from them. We called Fischer Specialty Insurance at 877-537-2555. He works with various companies in many states and he beat any rates we got from any agents locally. His name is Marc Fischer and he is very easy to work with and specializes in the Spyder.

We did not exactly finance so I can't help you there. Our credit card offered 3.99% so we couldn't beat that at any bank or credit union. So we bought one spyder with a credit card and used some of our home equity loan for the other spyder.

Best of luck to you and you will love your new toy when you get back to the states. When do you expect to be coming home? Where are you currently deployed now? Keep safe and let us know when you get back.

I also thank you. You will find the Spyder a great first motorcycle. Not really like other motorcycles, but the same riding experience. It was my wife's first cycle, and she's 54! She did take her MSF on two wheels. That made her comfortable with the concept of the clutch. She hasn't slowed down since.

1. Can't speak to dealerships in GA. Check the BRP site for dealers, then ask on the forum if any have experience with the one you are interested in. Floks here are very helpful.
2. We are still using the stock windshield. You will have no problem keeping up. This is not as protected as my BMW with a fairing, but is better than my naked bikes. I can only speak up to 90 mph or so, but it is a fine highway cruiser.
3. We also financed through the credit union. Go wherever you find the best rate. As to insurance, it varies state to state and person to person. The Spyder is new, so rates are not really low, but that may change in time due to the safety aspects. For now, shop around a bit, the rates varied company to company. Probably cheaper than a crotch rocket, but at least as expensive as a sport touring bike. Best of luck. Enjoy the Ryde!

Thanks for serving!

I run a CalSci medium size windshield and it's good to 120 mph.

And you're right - a Gixxer is not a good starter bike. The Spyder is my 27th bike/trike/roadster and I like it a lot. In fact, I don't even ride my one two-wheeler I have left and may, In fact, sell it.

Be safe!

Thank you!

From an old retired Navy medic, thank you for your service! I'm from the Korea/Vietnam era, and I hold you in the highest of respect for your dedication to duty and country.

You will love your Spyder and I look forward with pleasure to getting to know you better.

Fair winds and a following sea, Army Gurl!

ArmyGurl:

Forget the USAA insurance....they use Progressive. I'm not sure the person I talked to knew what a Spyder was. I've had a perfect driving record for the past 12 years and have taken the MSF course....quote was still over $900. I'm checking out Foremost Insurance tomorrow. The BRP dealers in GA are in Savannah, Gainesville and Augusta. None near Ft. Stewart. Don't get discouraged, it'll be worth driving a piece for one!

Hi and yet again, thanks for your service and dedication to ur country.....I think if you give Dairyland Ins. a call you just may be pleaently suprised.....take care of yaself Gurl :D

welcome Thank you for your service. I too was anovice biker and have found the :spyder:to be an Awesome ryde. I suggest a MSF course before you buy. Great information and safety awareness obtained. I use a stock windshield and it has been fine for me. I financed thru Navy Federal 6.5% apr. I use State Farm Insurance got a great rate $530 per year; much cheaper than the quotes I got from GEICO and Progressive.

Keep yourself safe. You are in my prayers. If you get to Pensacola, FL look me up for a great :spyder: ryde.:2thumbs:

First and formost THANK YOU for your service Army Vet here.
First bike? YOU BET have not been on one in 30 years, (Wife!) LOVE My spYder!
As for you questions -

1. My dealer in in Alabama - Cullman, many are closer to you but He has delt straight with me. (The sports center)

2 Stock windshield was ok, taller shield was installed @ 600mi Like it better.

3. Insurance Geico even has the spyder listed on it's web site. $600.00 a year for me. Progressive was $1200.00
I also have mine financed @ local Credit union 5.5%

As for shifting - you can take apart an M-16 shifting would be a "walk in the park"!

GO ARMY! (Roll Tide)

Again THANK YOU for your service

welcome

welcome and may I say Thank You for keeping us civilians all safe and sound!

I have Geico - my insurance was no problem. I also just use the stock windshields - the short one it came with and the touring one by BRP. I wear a 3/4 helmet and I am totally fine. This was from coming off a Harley Softail Deluxe. I get more air on this bike but the fun factor is MORE FUN. It can keep up with any bike. No problem going 90 on the highway. No problems taking off. It's alot of fun and I do feel safer on it than my Harley - maybe because it's three wheels but I love it - it's different than 2 wheels and in my opinion, easier to wash, more fun to ride, less crap to polish.

Stay safe in your deployment and I hope you can get one once you come back:thumbup:

Hi Army Gurl

Looks like everyone has already given great answers to your questions. Welcome aboard welcome from a retired Air Force guy. I have a daughter stationed at Ramstein AFB in Germany too, so I like to send a salute to all our troops!

Keep safe and get back home and get your :spyder:

I guarantee you won't be disappointed unless you don't like to have fun, turn heads and go fast!

I don't have much to add as all of these responses concerning the Spyder are right on. Thanks for serving. Stay safe.

I would like to thank you for your service to our country. I bought my Spyder and extras from Gainesville Motor Sports. From the owner Jimmy Westray, a stright up guy. I tried to buy one here in Birmingham, AL., Big #1 was rude, Clanton Power Sports did not want to get the price right. So I called Jimmy in Gainesville it was worth the drive.

Stay safe come home soon!

Not sure if this is too late or not or where you live but if you are looking for financing, you should try USAA.org. It is designed just for military people and I think is better than some of the military credit unions out there. They do insurance as well but they did not underwrite MC in NC. They may in your state.
I did all my stuff through them and even changed my car insurance over to them and saved hundreds of dollars..geez..I sound like one of those commercials.

Be safe and you will not be disappointed in this buy.
