• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

i want a slip on

Hello. I just got my spyder last month. I got a 2008 gs. Does anyone have a slip on they didn't like because it was too loud? If so I would love to have it! I am willing to buy it from you. The closer to Memphis the better but I am willing to wait on shipping from far away.

And I have a question also. On the city streets what gear and rpm should I run? Right now I do 3rd or 4th between 40-45. In 3rd I run high 4000 close/over 5000 rpm in 4th its 3600 to and below 4500 rpm. Also is the squeaking normal in reverse? Thanks in advance for all the help and advice.

The GS/RS loves rev's, particularly the pre 2013 ones. To give you an idea how much it hits it's maximum bhp at 8,500rpm and max torque at 6,250rpm. So as Trbayth mentioned 5000-5500 is a minimum. I'm normally in second or third around town - city speed limit here is 50kph (31mph).

Yes the squeak in reverse is normal, it's to do with the 'floating brakes' apparently. Only thing advantage is that that it does warn pedestrians that you are reversing:-)

Same Spyder

I have the same GS , depends on the load on the engine for RPM ( downhill , uphill what gear ?) These V-Twins do hit a sweet spot between 5000 and 6000 and shifting is much smoother if you stay in there even when accelerating easy . After driving your :ani29:for awhile you will start to feel where it works best , you can also hear it .

Thanks

I went for a ride yesterday and kept it above 5 rpm and it was much smoother. Its not a lot of big hills in Memphis to feel a difference. It just sound like i should change but the power was there when i wanted to move.

I just hit 17,000 miles on my 2012 RS and still prefer to up-shift between 3.5 and 4K rpms for normal acceleration to highway cruise speed. If in a hurry to get to cruise speed for some reason I'll go higher on the rpm's before up-shifting (such as an on-ramp into heavy high speed traffic from a MUCH slower feeder street).

I downshift manually just before I hit 3.5K rpm mark (wish BRP would let us configure our own down-shift points, the preset ones are about 200 rpm's too low at least they cause backfires and machine lurches when you let it hit the preset downshift rpm's!). For constant speed riding I prefer to be at or above 4K rpm's as necessary. But I don't see a need to be riding 55 mph in 3rd gear or anything like that as some on here have proclaimed we must all do or else. :lecturef_smilie:

You'll find your preferred riding style in no time flat. Do what feels right for you and your machine.

I have a two brothers slip on for sale.$200 if interested.

I rev my 09 RS up between 5500 and 6000 rpm before I shift into the next gear. I've noticed in this range, the shift is almost undetectable. And yes, it's embarrassing to squeak like a rusty tin bucket, but it does in reverse.:yikes: Gotta love the little quirks of the :ani29:.
