• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

So, Today, I am riding throught Colorado, like there is no tomorrow, just having a blast. All of a sudden Spydie is sounding funny. Yeah right its just my ears. Nope its not. I blew an exhuast gasket. At this point I am not sure which one I blew. All I know is I have second degree burns on my left leg. No biggy, that's what I get for riding in shorts

. I will probably do the same tomorrow.

I did do a stupid mistake as well. I stopped to get gas, and deicided to check my oil. Well, of course I got interupted. Hence I forgot to tighten the oil dip stick. 50 miles down the road, I realized, My foot is slippery, and its dificult to down shift. I look down and see all the oil. I went into panic mode, Ohhhh, No !!! I think I blew my engine. So, I pull over and start taking the plastics off. I was so releived when I found that I just didn't tighten the dipstick. Of course now, I'm sure I'm a quart low on Oil......

I replaced the "Y" Exhaust Gaskets yesterday. It is an easy job. (after you remove the plastics) it took me about 20 minutes. Here is a picture of what was left of the Right side gasket. The left side gasket did not exist.

I also dropped the bike off for is 36,000 mile service. I showed the gasket to the service manager, of course his response was "WOW". We discussed the issue and I found out, they did not know they were suppose to replace these gaskets every 12,000 miles. They had not charged me for the replacement of them before (that is good).

So, when you take your Spyder in for the every 12,000 mile service make sure you tell the Service guys to replace these gaskets. As you can tell by the picture they don't last that long. Also, as some of the other folks have stated there are alternatives to the OEM parts. That may last longer.

BRP has been replacing these under the warranty. They know there is a problem.

I have blown my exhaust gasket several times. They don't last more than a few thousand miles in my experience.

I got tired of going on a trip and having the gasket blow out during the first couple of days. So I took Lamonster's suggestion and put in the Honda gasket. Just looking at it, it looks to be far superior. And half the price. And easy to do.

I believe that BRP went cheap wherever they could. After all, this bike is fairly inexpensive. So I am putting a better grade part in whenever one is discovered. It should eventually improve reliability.

Good luck
