There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I think I am at a croos roads

Civility and politeness continue to be over rated. Let's bash everyone instead of looking for the value in each other. That way everyone will be able to feel justified.

SO DOWN WITH NICENESS...UP WITH MEAN!! WE ARE ALL ENTITLED TO BE MEAN...THE CONSTITUTION SAYS SO.

I think it is interesting to hear people jump all over Edsts about this post because "he has no respect for his elders". Respect is a two way street and EVERYONE needs to remember that. There are a lot of "older riders" on here beating him down for his comment. Well, what makes you any better than he is? That's right... NOTHING!!! Someone called him an idiot and multiple other things. I think people need to think before they speak. I for one have to say I am sick of people on this site being over sensitive and one sided. He should not have said some of the things he did, however neither should have some of you. Just because your older does not give you the right to say what YOU and only you want.

As for the speed issue WHO CARES!!! If he wants to ride 70 or 80 and it's a safe place then let him! It is not hurting you and it's none of your business. He also stated that a couple of riders almost hit each other and missed turns. I don't hear anyone commenting on that.... That's right, just because you have ridden for 60 - 70 years does not mean you still should. How many people have been on the road in their cars and seen an older person that is not safe behind the wheel? I would bet everyone, although for this purpose most won't admit it.

My point is this, There are people of all ages that make mistakes, ride fast/slow, are not safe on the road, say things that others don't like etc.... Think before you speak, type or react. I am a 40 year old man that has done stupid things on motorcycles and in cars and life in general. Now I think before I do things because I grew up and understand there are consequences for my actions. That being said it does not mean that i don't still like to have fun and "ride hard" ever once in a while. If choose to ride slow that is your thing. If your missing turns and/or almost hit other riders then please sell the Spyder or take a riders course and re-evaluate.

One of the most aggressive riders I ride with rides a spyder and is 64. He's been riding for 45+ years and I can honestly say i am the most comfortable riding with him compared to anyone else. Im 42 and been on bikes since i was a tike.

However, I agree with the OP. Most spyder riders I've run into drag ass! Maybe it's not an age thing and more of a lack of riding experience??

"A Safe Speed" is a dynamic term. A particular stretch of road can have several different dynamic speed limits. Let's say that stretch of road has a normal speed limit of 60mph. What if it is raining? What if it is night time, no street lights and deer are known to be in the area? What if it is night time and raining? What if there is heavy traffic? But remember, this isn't just your road. You share it with others. We live in a society with rules, but even more important is the idea that we are supposed to be respectful of others. Tailgating, high speed passes and road rage doesn't show any respect at all.

If the speed limit is 60 mph and you approach someone from behind at 70mph, and he is going 50mph, do you have a valid argument for getting mad at him? Should he scramble to get out of your way? Remember, the key words here are "Speed Limit", not Speed Minimum. He is within his legal rights, and you are not. In fact, if a cop sees you doing that, you know you're supposed to get a ticket. That's why when a cop is traveling down a busy highway, everyone slows down to maintain his speed. All of you guys that talk about high speed driving become little weenies when you get near cops. You suddenly become aware of the law. You suddenly and briefly treat other drivers with respect. It's this self awareness that makes these type of people jerks. For you know what you're doing.

On that note, it's time to be reminded of just how precious life is:

There are slow people riding or driving just about every kind of machine out there. It isn't the Spyder, it's the rider. And it's not necessarily the age, again, it's the rider. I've been in groups of young people riding slow.

Nothing wrong with taking it easy. They enjoy it that way and they should be able to ride any way they like as long as it is safe.

You're not on the wrong machine, you're just with the wrong group.

How may people did you ride with on your 2 wheeler? You know you can ride solo on your Spyder as well.... :ohyea:

Please, speak your peace

I've been riding for 30+ years. When I was in college, two friends of mine died on motorcycles. The first one was killed on a group ride we were on. His rear tire blew out at high speed causing him to go over an overpass; killing him on impact. The second one was killed a year later. We were getting ready to make a left hand turn when he gunned it. He was broadsided by a car. I was at his side when he took his final breath. A few years later I had to rush my father to the E.R. after he drove his Goldwing off a cliff because he wasn't paying close attention to the sand on the road while we were driving a mountain road - he lived.

Yeah, you guys are right. I know I have a sharp tongue. When I hear kids talking like that; it brings back some of my worst memories. If he said "they are a great bunch of guys, and I'm going to miss them, but maybe I belong with a different group", it would show that he had some respect for those that are at least still trying at their age. Instead he curses about them and calls them fools. Some of you may respect him, find him to be funny, or to be a good-ol-boy. I do not. I apologize to everyone for my sharp tongue, however I do not apologize for the message I'm trying to convey. There isn't enough time left in the day, enough battery power in my keyboard, or enough mental energy left in me to get into the things I've seen to explain why I speak harshly. However, I read imminent doom in his words, and I'm not one to laugh about it and say it's cool.

I am a voice of reason. While I've done things that most never will, I practice common sense from the moment I wake up; to the moment I go back to bed. I also take everything I do very seriously while I've watched several of those around me disappear in the pitfalls of life. This being said, If the majority believes I should remove my previous post because it is just too upsetting for everyone to read, I'll oblige.

And peace is what you speak! I've been through some of what you talk about. We need to tell it like it is but call it as it can be. In this case there is a definite mismatch in his fit into the group he road with, but no cause to lash out at them for who they are. This anger will manifest itself in future actions and that is dangerous. We wish only the best for all concerned.

Texas, Maybe you sharing your opinion over and over and calling people names (which is what other people got upset about) makes you a jerk... What makes a person going 10 mph under the "speed limit" any better than someone going 10 mph over? Most people drive/ride at the posted speed limit. So, with that said a person going 10 mph under is placing others and themselves at risk. What if your riding down the road and go around a corner to find someone (any age) putting and you can't stop? Yet you were going the speed limit.... That's right, according to your logic you are the problem for going the speed limit. Doesn't make much sense to me.... In fact that is why most states have minimum speed limits as well. Yes I said minimum speed limits... Also what about the guys that almost hit each other and what about the ones that missed turns.. you think maybe they need a riding course? It's easy to bully people over the internet isn't it!!!!

Yazz,
It might have had something to do with his perception of what, "safe following distance" means...

True! Most of his life he has ridden dirt bikes in Southern California. Just switched over to a street bike a few years ago. Maybe that has something to do with it?

We'll keep working with him, but no more highway riding till he gets it.

Group rides "Suck!" on a Spyder or a Jetski because you don,t have the Freedom of the 100th Amendment to "Turn and Burn!" And I will Never let anyone take that away from Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yes::yes:

iterssting read

Started on it this morning before I headed to work.. figured there would be more.. OK I will be 66 in 15 days.. wondering how I got here so fast..been writing different motorized machines since the neighbor on the other side of the alley took his dad's lawmower engine off and put it on a mini-bike,,,, and changed the sprockets... bet we could do all of 30 down that gravel.. it could have only been 15.. but when you are 10..;and did you know that if you push a Honda 2 stroke step-through backwards you can start it and it will run backwards.. great fun in the snow..still wear the scars on my left leg when I got tangled up in a Bultaco when I pulled a wheelie and 1/2 and ended up ..upside down in a drainage ditch with my leg stuck in the fender.. I was 16.. ;stopped wearing bellbottoms that day..chain grabbed them...started wearing skin tight stretch jeans , which once again, is popular today..found out you flip up the shield at night coming to a stop sign on your Suzuki.. always the possibility of a bug flattening your eye and you see all sorts of directions at the same time... don't ever try to cross the Continental Divide on a BMWK100RS ;when the road turns to dirt...;never ever .. go 176 mph + on a bmw on the street .. ;just because you can and I did.so where does this rant lead.. maybe to music.. we will see.. ;as the original poster spoke of fools.. I can say I have been foolish in some of the things I have done.. but never a fool. perhaps yes, perhaps no

oh and I ride alone.. always have

Are you sure you want to ride this train?

Where do I begin? I'm not sure if you have a comprehension problem, or if you just feel it's your right to do want you want on the road. By the way, did you know that you do not have a right to drive on the road? You don't. It's a privilege; and it's a privilege that some people obviously should not have when they want to abuse that privilege.

I tell you what, you go ahead and slam into the back of the next vehicle you come up on again. Let me know how that works out for you after you are cited for the accident, probably given a ticket for excessive speed, failure to yield, you have to cover all the costs of damages, hospital bills, and watch your insurance rates go up.

It is your responsibility to "pass with care" and and control your vehicle at all times. As for your scenario; Again, it is YOUR responsibility to control your vehicle to avoid ANY obstacles in the road; no matter what the obstacle. If this is something you honestly don't know, then I speak for everyone when I say please go back and take a driver's education class; or at the very least, a defensive driving class (which can also lower your rates). But the fact that all of what I say doesn't make any sense to you, scares the living daylights out of me, but it does explain a lot of what I see on the road.

As for minimum speed limits, yes, occasionally you do see some (though most states do not post one). However, it is such a low speed that it is not even up for discussion for your argument. However, I promise you that even if you were driving at an excessive speed and came upon someone that was going under the posted minimum speed limit; all of what I said will happen to you above; will happen to you. I am well versed with the law, but I welcome you to challenge me on anything I have told you.

As far as people that run into each other; who is responsible is difficult to say. People that miss turns? Do I really need to say it? However, you're deviating from the comments I made. I'm only referring to excessive speed.

Now I challenge you to show me any law that supports your belief that it is legal to drive above the posted speed limit, and that those who are driving a reasonable speed below the posted speed limit (say 10 mph under the limit) are breaking any law.

You know, a real man would just say "I know it's breaking the law, but I like to drive fast and everyone best get the hell out of my way", instead of trying to make excuses by indicating that it's safer to drive faster than slower. That's without a doubt the dumbest thing I've heard today.

This is a free country. If you want to drive 90, go ahead. However, if you kill someone due to your negligence, your life will be forever changed; and do keep that forever in the back of your mind, because your chances and rate of liability increase proportionally with each extra notch on the speedometer. I for one do not have to ever worry about killing someone due to my negligence, because I always drive at a speed and distance to avoid accidents.
