• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I spotted an imposter!

I paid 25k for my spyder. Look what I got.

Personally i would want to see all the bugs worked out and have a firm network of dealers that could work on any problems that come up or you may be stuck on the side of the road with no way to repair it.

Just curious: I was one of the many SL members that wished you well in your new GW purchase. You have used this thread to come back twice and take a slap at the :spyder2:'s. Just wondering what gives?

IMPOSTER

Just returned from China. While there I tried to find more information on the 3 wheel version shown. It might be made in China but not available there. Talking to one dealer they said that the largest engine available to the public in southern China is 150 cc. Some of the police have 250cc bikes. They had never heard of or seen anything like the spyder. I also visited a second dealer and was told that some of the China motorcycle manufactures produce bikes in other Asian countries because of the restrictions on engine size in China.

China government has restricted Moto Bike CC to 150. Most Police there have 250 CC. However there is a worldwide motorcycle Wholesale Warehouse area in Guangzhou that I have been to. You can buy anything you want Moto Bike wise if you have the money. From the littlest CC bikes you can hardly sit on to the big Sportsters HD (probably a copy).
There are any number of HDs, GWs, Hondas available and ridden in Guangzhou After Hours, midnight to 6:00 AM. No Motor bikes allowed on the streets of GZ during the day time hours.

I found the dealer for :spyder2: in Hong Kong (
where I was venomized) who said there is probably 200 :spyder: running around in China. I have heard more than 20 in Vietnam.

China manufactures 2 qualities of products... Domestic and Export.... you get what you pay for !!! Trust me the domestics are foul at best, thin, lightweight, often made with stainless steal (we all know is very soft metal). Mechanics don't tighten anything down to increase the chance things will vibrate loose and fall off later. VIBRATE is a key word!!

Say what you will..!!

I do like the single sided swing arm with easy access to the rear wheel... Don't know where you all would put that trailer hitch..?? :roflblack:

You are right. Posts changed. No more replying to anything unless I am praising BRP . In other words, no more posts.

Cancun

They rent these in Cancún. I checked them out on a trip to Cancún last year. They looked to be short on quality.

It was not my intent to speak so strongly that you would decide to no longer post.

I also say many things about BRP that they probably don't appreciate. I have always looked at the product from a consumer advocate point of view. I have had people criticize me for my statements against some aspects of the product/service, etc.

On the other hand, I am also a strong supporter of the product. I have voted with my pocketbook for four different spyders, and a lot of other money to farkle and service them.

As a reader of posts on the site, you well know that there are lurkers about (former owners, disgruntled customers, and just plain troublemakers). Some of these people come on whenever they get an opportunity to bash the product and a lot of us can even name names. I have no problem with people venting about a problem or trying to get a solution to their issue. It is the ones who complain, just to complain, and don't have anything to add other than the same issue over and over again.

I do not consider you to be one of these people Dave. Like Bob suggested--we were having a bad day at the same time.

Hope this clears the air.

Follow-up

I stopped by the powersports place that is selling this bike. The name on the bike is "Venom". Did not see a manufacturer, but looks the same as the one in the link posted earlier in this thread. A saleslady told me that they are asking $5000.00, that it has a 300cc engine, and that it tops out at about 45mph. Also told they can customize it by adding items such as a 12v dash outlet with usb charging ports and a stereo. She said that it is intended for tooling around town and not to be taken on the freeway. Uh, really? I kinda figured that one out all by myself :p. Anyway, just wanted to follow-up.

Geez, this thing again?

Pardon my French, but it's crap, people.

That doesn't mean that everything from China is crap (where do you think your iPhone was built?). But c'mon, the Roketa, like the rest of the Sunny products, is crap.

I don't begrudge people getting out there on whatever they can to ride. I begrudge people stupid enough to mount one of these rattletraps. I begrudge people twice-over for being foolish enough to spend legal tender on one of these rattletraps. Good lord, how many *wonderful* bikes, used and even new, could one enjoy for $5000!!

They're literally disposable, insofar as when they break-- and oh goodness, will they ever break!-- parts are literally impossible to find in the United States, and most any reputable bike mechanic won't even bother working on them (have heard that from no less than *three* shops in the DC area, where these ripoffs plague the roads). And if you think BRP is a PITA to deal with... :roflblack:

I like scooters. I have an extra special place in my heart for cheap scooters. And it's true that many cheap scooters eventually become *good* scooters-- witness the Taiwanese scoots from Buddy and Kymco. And yes, many of the Taiwanese and even Japanese scoots are licensed produced in China, perhaps even leveraging some of the same parts that go into the Sunny bikes.

But they're still crap. nojoke

garbage

this bike can't hold the real spyders jock strap
I was running errands the other day and saw this perpetrator in a parking lot. It looks like a poor copy at best. I see in the closeup that it is chain-driven. I'm thinking about paying the dealer a visit and asking some questions about it. Maybe take some better pictures of it while I'm there. Hanging a camera out the passenger window while negotiating traffic during a right turn was not fun!:yikes:
Has anyone else seen one of these or know anything about it?
