• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I thought it would be fun to see where this goes. I'm sure it will bring back a lot of memories.

I remember when.....

...my first cellphone was in a bag.

I remember when TV was only black and white and Mom put a cellophane cover over the tube to emulate color. It was greenish at the bottom for grass, pinkish in the middle for flesh tones, and blueish at the top for sky. Neighbors thought she had a swell idea.

.19 cent GAS

Damn I guess I'm officially OLD...
I remember 19 Cent GAS and they gave S&H Green stamps, washed your windows
checked your tires, oil & water.
I remember Froggy the Gremlin
Howdy Doody, Capt. Midnight,
We had to shovel coal into the furnace.
I could go on and on...
My first motor vehicle was a Wizzer Motorbike

Oh wait... those memories are Chuck's! :opps: :D

...Sleds didn't have curled tips on the runners... Every year; some kid would be in the hospital with a puncture wound in someplace horrible!

Remember when

There weren't four lane highways and each lane of the two lanes were eight foot wide.
A dollar bought a pound of hamburger, loaf of bread, quart of milk, and, a candy bar.
There were gas wars. Not, wars against gas.
No one thought bringing a pet snake to school was a criminal offense.
Two bits got you a ticket to a double feature.
Fast food was delivered on roller skates.
Yes, I remember......whistle stops too.

Times have changed and the torch is slowly being passed.
So, do us a favor. Please!
Don't burn the place down.

:joke:

I remember buying it for 34 cents a gallon; we were sure that it would be the end of modern civilization when the oil embargo pushed it to 54 cents... :yikes:

I remember having to see if the neighbors were using the phone (party line) before making a call. If the line was clear, you rang the operator and told her the number you wanted to call. Our phone no. Was
"1 on 71".

And, the operator could listen in on any call she wanted to at any time.

I remember when I could run five miles a day and it was fun; when a fuzzy, black and white TV show called "Hopalong Cassidy" made me happy; I remember Roy Rogers in a fist fight with a bad guy, and never losing his hat! But most of all, I remember Mama . . .

I remember when it took two trips from the car to carry $50.00 worth of groceries.

Now i can carry $100.00 in one trip, i must be getting stronger.

I remember

When Americas leaders were people that we looked up to and respected. (hopefully we will be there again someday).

When kids that acted out at school were dealt with by the teacher and if they complained to Mom & Dad, they were dealt with again.

I remember when if you had a regular paying job you were a happy person

Welfare was for the truly needy folks and no one wanted to be on welfare.

People retired at 55.

I am going to stop here.

Truthfully; you can carry more than a hundred bucks worth of groceries in our bikes without breaking a sweat... :gaah:

when gas was .25 cents a gallon and there was a local service station and an attendant who filled up your car for you and checked the oil

picking up coke bottles and returning them and getting back the deposit

when we got one thing at Christmas and my parents were really struggling back then, but we didn't know any better

when we traveled on vacation at night because our cars didn't have A/C

when you respected your mom and your dad and those older than you whether you liked it or not

We would go outside and play all day. And was told to come home when the street lights came on. We didn't sit inside all day watching TV. Or video games. Or computer. A computer in your home was like something in syfy.

I remember getting the first video console. If I recall it was called "pong". Had one game you cold play by yourself or two player.

I remember . . .

  • watching "Leave It To Beaver" and "I Love Lucy" in first run showings
  • watching "My Little Margie"
  • rambling all over town because I knew if I misbehaved someone would tell my Mom
  • 5-digit phone numbers; on my aunt & uncle's farm their phone no was '80F31' and we had to call the operator to call them
  • about the worst problem at the schools was gum-chewing and an occasional fight
  • a boy and girl in my high school had to get married

I must e old

When I was in kindegarden about a zillion years ago I remember:
1. a horse drawn milk man
2. the ice man
3. the Lone Ranger...on radio
4. the trash man's cart pulled by a horse
5. riding a bus all by myself when I was a little older (about 10)

I remember Mom putting a "For Rent" sign in the front window, upside down, as a signal for the ice man to stop and bring a block of ice to the back door for our icebox, which sat in an unheated room behind the kitchen. He drove a horse drawn wagon, and on hot days, would chip chunks of ice off the blocks for us kids to suck on . . . and we thought it was a treat! We also had "the huckster" , a guy with a horse drawn wagon who sold fresh vegetables. I went to school with his grandson.

Do you remember your milk being delivered in glass bottles?
By the milkman??

I do!
How about taking milk, "straight from the teat"? No Pasteurizing was needed!
