• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I need some help, please

From the earlier posting I saw about the SR770 rack, and from the video and instructions, it appears to be a very sturdy mount, with metal brackets that attach directly to the frame. The Givi mounts from the case to the plate are very sturdy and secure. I wouldn't hesitate to use the SR770, Givi topcase, and a backrest pad. It would make for a very secure ride, IMO.

I have the Givi rack SR770 and V46 case. Wife seems to like the back rest well enough, and that rack is strong enough.

Ditto.

We have the Givi rack/V46, great set-up. I added the brake light accessory, adds some visibility. My only regret was not getting a rack that holds the side bags, my bad. Good luck, ride safe.

My aim is to put "something" on the back of the Spyder so that when my husband is a passenger there is something behind him. This is the basic premise that I'm starting with.

If that is your premise, the money should not enter the equation. IMHO.

Well, unfortunately, money did enter the equation. In looking at the full number of mods I'd like to do, the cost was getting near or even over $2000.00 when labor was considered.

Husband, not coming from motorcycles, did not really grasp the concept of modifying the stock machine. It has taken me the better part of two years to convince him to do the things we are doing to the Spyder. But then when I started running through costs, he nearly fell away in a dead faint. Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration. But he sure was surprised and none too happy.

Maybe you guys just tell your wives that you are going to do what you want with your machine and that's that. But I can't do that. Sorry if I come on here, being totally honest, and then can't take the suggestions offered. Maybe I should have been even further along in my deciding thought process before I shared my ideas.

Anyway, it's done. The RoadKrome backrest and rack are on order. I managed to slip the ESI Up and Out Mirror Extentions into the list because we did not go with a more expensive backrest option. I've got to be happy with that. And I am. I'm getting a few things to improve handling and saftey. I'm going to get my husband's feet in a position that will hopefully prevent him from having hip cramps when he gets on and off.
None of this is "bling". Bling is great when you have a bit of money and that's what you want to do with it. I love seeing what others have done with their Spyders.

Sorry I brought our dose of reality onto the forum. I appreciated retread's suggestion of the RoadKrome. That was helpful. The suggestion to buy the RT was fantasy.

And I apologize for voicing a suggestion.

One thing I forgot to mention with the RoadKrome backrest - the screws to mount the pad (on mine) were too short, stainless steel longer replacements are easy to find, though.

Actually, Marilyn, your "dose of reality" is quite welcome. Not everyone can solve all problems by throwing money at them. Some are lucky enough to have fabricating skills ( I especially like BJT's sissy bar). I hope the RoadKrome setup works out well for you.

Thank you Neez. Sometimes I seem like I'm in a very small minority of people who have to pay to have any little thing done to the Spyder, so have to watch costs closely. I don't want to sound unappreciative of all suggestions. But the truth is, I don't have the money to trade to the RT even if I wanted to.

I think if I had seen the suggestions of going with the Givi SR 770 and a Givi V46 topcase sooner, with the affirmations that it was solid and going to be all that I wanted, then I might have gone that route. I kind of was wishing to get more than just a backrest on there. But, I can order a BikersFriend bag or SeaLine bag and be able to do overnights easily if that's what I want to do. We're not doing long trips now. But, you never know. Lots of options is what makes life interesting! When I ever figure out how to post some pictures, let alone resize the photos I take, I'll take some pictures of it in the spring when it's all done.

No need to be sorry! Many are in the same boat.
I've made several mods to my :spyder: but the only thing I've paid full price for is my windshield/robobrackets and my Corbin front seat. I paid full price for that because I got a screamin deal for a smugglers trunk and needed the front seat to complete the set-up, which will be installed next week:ohyea:

I don't think you are part of the minority, but the majority when you consider the number of members on this site and those that post their mods. If I had the $$$ I would be ryding a RT (with matching trailer), but I ryde a RS instead. My three mods are all for safety, and the lowest price I could get away with. I am just blessed that I can do the work myself.

Hi Marilyn - I found you! Glad you found a solution for your backrest needs. I hope to be posting similar questions within a few weeks. Money will definitely be an issue for me, too!
