I Need a New Seat

Love my Spyder (2011 RS SM) but after two hours in the saddle my bum is sore to the point of hurting.
I know I've a couple of mods to do (4" risers, mirror extensions and hand grips) but I'm still waiting for the lousy weather to happen.
Anyone have any comments on standard RS seats 'cos I'm looking to replace mine.
I've been browsing the Corbin goodies and I'm leaning toward the modular seat. I'm 5'9 so I'm wondering if the Lamonster cut is to be considered.
I do like not being locked into just one seating position (I can scoosh my bum back a mite) but will a "sculpted seat" be a disadvantage.
Your advice would be appreciated.

I love my corbin modular seat,not LaMonster cut since I got the seat used ($250.)I could not be too picky but it's great!I also did risers,floorboards and Madsted robo-brackets(already had good windshield.All made it so I can ryde and ryde for many hours:yes:

Love my Corbin, of course when I got mine they were really the only aftermarket choice. Now you have many choices. Remember the Corbin (and probably other seats too) requires a break-in period before it really 'fits you'. Some feel they are too hard. Many have felt they make you feel like you are sliding forward. I felt this but it went away after break-in--around 2,000 miles. Some have done the Lamonster cut to help even more.

Corbin changed hands and it seems their customer service is not what it used to be--- but YMMV

Seats are a very, very personal thing, and what works for one person can be agony to another...just like OEM seats. This is one area where it pays not to take anybody's word for what is good and what is bad. The best thing you could do is attend a Spyder event, look at several options, ask some questions, and maybe ask some owners if you could sit and try what they have. Many are willing to do so. Lacking that, you have to be aware that seats are like windshields, you may end up owning several before you get one that suits your needs. With the cost of seats, that can be painful in itself.

IMO, the best seat out there for anything is a custom seat made by Russell Day-Long or Rick Mayer. I am one of those people that has never fit a Corbin, but I owned a fine Russell. They are tailored to your measurements and your request, and usually they will modify them if they do not work for you. Both companies do seem to understand human anatomy. Of course you pay for the privilege, but it can be worth it.

Ultimate seat

You should check out the Ultimate seats. We've got one and it's wonderful. We "test-rode" an Ultimate seat in Panama City...maybe the vendor will be at Spyderfest or some other motorcycle rally by you so you could check them out. Erags especially likes his backrest (I've had one on our trunk for awhile). I didn't notice if you had floorboards or not, but they made a HUGE difference in the ride...with floorboards on, we managed to put 17000 miles on our bike before deciding we needed a cushier seat. Good luck picking out a new seat.

I 1st got a Corbin for my RT and it was just ok. I then got a Russell "Day Long" and it's far better. You can ride ALL day w/o a butt problem.
